Pretty unobtrusive, don’t really effect the use of the site in my opinion. Thing is, I’ve never been on plenty o fish and don’t currently need any more lingerie :)

This reminds me of the time someone on the pinkun complained that he kept getting adverts for porn, then it was pointed out that they are generated on your browsing history ;)

I remember laughing about that, he just didn't get it though!

They are adsense ads so if you go to: https://adssettings.google.com

(that assumes you have a Google account though I think, I appear to be 'logged in' when I visit that link).

You can actually see what Google thinks you like, and let them know which things they've got wrong.

Then the ads they serve you will be more in line with your interests.

Just press the 'x' on anything which doesn't actually interest you... e.g. shows "American Football" for me, which I hate.

ps. These ads can get people in trouble. My missus was looking at one of those fancy makeup mirrors on her laptop (the ones which have a bulb in the middle) and I was seeing ads for those mirrors on my desktop.

Dread to think what ads she sees on her laptop as a result of what I search for on my desktop :D

I also realised that applying for a job at Google must be a bit of an unnerving experience.... if I applied for a job at Google, would they have a nose at 15 years of my search history? Do people who want to work at Google use Bing for this reason?

haha, yeah they generally get allocated based on user intent so if the IP address you are in has been on anything that could be remotely linked to plenty of fish ( could be as simple as an accidental click on a dating site or similar ) then it could be shown related ads. Likewise it can be based on topical discussion, So now plenty of fish as been mentioned on this thread its possible some people will see ads from them.

Other retargetting methods could be as simple as you clicking on an advert of plenty of fish accidentally on another site, Google recorded you as doing that and considers you potentially interested, you then fall into the "remarketing" fold. You may have noticed if you goto a website like PCworld or something, you then see PCworld adverts following you around the web for weeks after.

I have the advert on my sites as placeholders, mainly because if they were not there, then i added them a year down the line when potentially the forum is busier im more likely to get grief, if they are there from the outset.............well :)

I use adblocker, so everyone is welcome to use it too if they get too irritating :)

I don’t find then irritating, just the content funny. I’ve had one for dating Arab women this afternoon :). Funnily enough, I did mention plenty o fish in a previous thread so perhaps that’s where that one came from.

And shortly after looking at this thread on my mobile I get this, luckily the ad name started with an L and not a G  :

ps. Google always seems to think I'm bloody minted.

Only "original" piece of art I've got was bought from the artist for £25 from ebay.
