How would you like me to deal with 'match threads'?

I will move this topic from the Norwich board in a while.

Just seeking opinions on the best way to do this. My thinking was to:

  1. Create and pin a match thread on this board in the week before the game (e.g. Monday, game saturday).
  2. Link to the match thread via the calender entry (fixture on sidebar)
  3. Reserve second post of thread for line-ups and formations to be added before kick-off.
  4. Leave on this board for discussion for a few days post match
  5. Then move the match threads to a new forum for old match threads, where no new topics can be added (but game can still be discussed, thread can be read).
How does that sound?

Sounds awesome. Where have you been the last 10 years?!
About 26 hours ago I posted about this board on the Pink'un and almost didn't do it, because I was worried that people wouldn't like the skin colours or the logo. Delighted that it has gone down so well with people.

I think users would be surprised if they knew just how much more there is to come, I consider it to be an unfinished project, and the existing functions have a lot of scope for additional uses. But just for a taster:

  • A member map (optional for users) - this would enable people to pin their rough location (not necessarily their street address, but their town) with a pin which when clicked leads to their profile, where they can add them as a friend, drop them a line and arrange to meet up. Handy for international fans or exiled fans like myself, and would hopefully show that Norwich have a truly international fanbase. An example of where that could be useful - Poster A goes on holiday to Malta and is going to miss a home game, sees that Poster B lives in Malta - poster A drops them a message and asks where they can watch the game, gets invited to Poster B's local.

  • If this community did grow, the above could be integrated with an 'events' calender (which would also show on the top 'fixtures' tab, and in the sidebar as an 'event'. People can RSVP to events. So if we get a couple of fans from say Bristol, who want to meet up over a pint to watch a sky game in the pub, they could create an open event inviting other Bristol based fans to the pub. I have already discovered two fans on here who live very close to my current location up north, the more fans we get signed up the more realistic this prospect of social events becomes.

  • A prediction league (software based). This will be very difficult for me to implement, but I know somebody who has the code for this running on another IP board based independent club forum who will allow me to use it in exchange for a favour or two from me. Probably looking at season 2015/16 for that. Already been in contact with them about it.

That all sounds amazing, and puts the pinkun forum to shame, considering how much they like their electronic media, their forum is an embarrassment. I can see this forum leading the way for Norwich City fans.

Your ambition is amazing, and very refreshing as well! Keep up the good work! (By the way, I really like the logo!)

The problem you will have is finding time to do all that *and* run/moderate the site, so if you need assistance with any of the more admin-heavy activities such as moderation etc., then I'm sure some of us would be prepared to do our bit to free up your time for development.

Thanks, I have had a few people message offering to help (all noted).

There is already a poster who has mod privileges for NorwichTalk, and he has already moved a few threads I believe, will recruit one or two more soon.

I ideally need to finish off some clear and concise forum rules before handing out mod priviledges - working on that right now.

Don't know if this is helpful or not, but the pre match threads on footballjunkie are pretty good in my opinion..For me being an exile, the ground settings, history are really helpfull in getting a picture of the game coming up
