Relegation 6 pointer!

Not saying it is a "must win" but it would be really, really good not to lose, and keep the toon bottom. Dean Smith's first away game, will be interesting to see what he does differently. Assuming Normann will be out, and Rupp, who was excellent the other day, will play. Other than that, no idea, pretty much everybody played okay against Wolves, so no major surgery required.

A win would be the icing on the cake, a draw would do the job psychologically for Newcastle though.
Will our players have enough in the tank to keep another clean sheet? It all seemed a bit harem scarem on Saturday, hopefully Deano will work some more of his magic and help our defence towards being organised rather than manic.
Be interesting to see if any goals go in the other end too, we keep missing chances.

I can’t see anything but an unchanged team, will this be classic case of along come Norwich?

Smith downplays the magnitude of tomorrow's game. Quick to point that #NUFC have a new manager and a partisan crowd. 'It's about us and managing to quieten down the fans'

'I've been pleasantly surprised at the squad that is available for us. We are doing some 11v11 work and having to leave players out for that.

Fitness wise, Smith is happy with the physical stats his #NCFC squad are displaying at the moment. Norwich more than a match for anyone on that front. Saturday was as good as any in that regard, he says.

Smith keen to deflect praise from himself and onto the players for their performances in the last two matches. 'They are Premier League players and they need to believe that. It's about confidence.

DS: “Sometimes the players just need the inner belief and confidence to embrace the fact that they’re Premier League players and deserve to be. “The atmosphere in both games so far... I must say it has been magnificent.”

Tomorrow is about #NCFC focussing on their strengths and controlling the controllable - the elements of their performance. Smith adds that Krul had very little to do on Saturday. What he did do was mainly of City's making.

Smith believes #NCFC are well on their way to achieving the first objective he set at his first presser - limiting chances of their opponents. Pleased with three of the four halves he has overseen.

Nice line from Smith about how Traore didn't get into #NCFC's box with the ball on Saturday. Given they face Saint-Maximin tomorrow, that would be a good thing to repeat.

What does a Dean Smith #NCFC side look away from home? 'There won't be much difference. But we are playing against a partisan crowd. Our job is to quieten them down. We want to be tough to beat.

Smith then adds that #NCFC have players with plenty of attacking flair to create enough chances that could help win the game. Interesting line earlier about how this squad now believes it belongs at this level.

DS confirms Normann out for #nufc. 'He needs to see a specialist but we'll wait and see.

On their low conversion rate, Smith says #NCFC just need to focus on the creation of chances rather than concern themselves with taking them. As long as they do that, hopefully the goals will come.

Smith credits Lukas Rupp's performance against Wolves. Created two big chances for Aarons and Pukki, mentions by Smith for PLM and Sorensen who have impressed in training.

Ozan Kabak has been back in full training for a week. Smith says at the moment they don’t need two centre backs on the bench so Big Andy is getting the nod ahead of him.

No need for Teemu Pukki to dwell on those chances missed on Saturday. 'If we feed him, he will score.' Once again, Smith keen to stress that other areas need to chip in with goals.

'I pay respect to any team that we face, but we certainly don't fear anybody. We believe we deserve to be in the Premier League.' Hallelujah.

Smith says both him and Craig Shakespeare have been impressed by the balance and depth to the #NCFC squad.

Newcastle's defence is not very good. Rashica could run riot against his full/wing back. Sargent will be able to keep his full/wing back quiet giving Aarons the chance to get forward. Pukki should get chances against this defence and Sargent may get his opportunity too. Their midfield is nothing special so Mclean and Rupp (presumably) can keep them under control leaving Gilmour to do what he does with Rupp lending a creative hand when necessary. Williams should be able to link up with Rashica and hopefully create some opportunities down the left. Gibson and Hanley should have no problems against Wilson but their lack of pace could see them undone by St Maximin. If that guy is on form we could be in trouble. My prediction ... a Norwich win.

I could, of course, be talking rubbish.

There's a lot riding on this, if Newcastle lose, they find themselves starting to become adrift. There were stats knocking around that no side who hasn't won by this point in the season, has ever stayed up, so Newcastle need this win badly. Agree with all you have said though, I think we can win it.

But I have had a bet on 2-2, with an anytime Rashica goal.

Rupp and McLean worry me, yes they were praised for their efforts in the last game, but.

Hopefully Tzolis and Gilmour will create / actually score some of the chances.
Other than Idah, not many goals on the bench if the starting 11 can't score.

Rashica injured and Todd has covid situation.

Feels like the occasion maybe got to the players a bit maybe. Didn't help having Normann and Rashica missing, suddenly it really looked like we didn't have much on the bench to come on and change the game. Tzolis remains not ready for this league. Kenny didn't have the game he had last time out. And Aarons didn't take Jamal Lewis on once.

Really surprised he didn’t put Dowell on , we didn’t have anyone else that can play the killer pass. So many players didn’t perform tonight though.

Would've probably been fairly happy with a point if offered before the game, and having been a goal down I'll obviously take it now, but man, that was fucking atrocious.

We were absolutely blessed with a glorious opportunity to win this, basically playing against 10 men for the whole thing, and yet we seemed to completely freeze. Didn't know how to react to the red card, and almost seemed to think "Well we've got plenty of time to grind Newcastle down, so let's take our time", and then proceeded to move the ball painfully slowly from side to side, with no creativity or invention at all. I know we obviously had Rashica and Normann missing (and no doubt those two could've made a huge difference today),but today really was more reminiscent some of our away performances under Farke.

That all said, one thing that definitely wasn't reminiscent of Farke was the substitutions. All 3 really helped change the game, and Smith has to take a lot of credit for that. What a finish as well by Teemu.

Another aspect of the game though that was also fucking atrocious, that refereeing/VAR performance. From the moment the ref sent off Clark he gave every single decision Newcastle's way. Not even every 50/50 it was literally every time we made a tackle or a Newcastle player went down he gave the decision. It was a joke. I still also don't understand how they can give the Gilmour handball and yet not the clear handball against Manquillo in the first half, his arm is well away from his body and the header from McLean is on target. How is that one not given by VAR but the other is? I know Gilmour has his hand up (what is he doing btw?) and Manquillo doesn't but I don't understand what difference it makes.

Well even despite playing generally pretty terribly we've managed to get a point. Take it and move on to hopefully a better performance at the weekend.

Not a very good watch, slow and lacking bite, shoddy passing, some of the team were not at their best. However, we didn't lose, hopefully, this will keep the morale up. More work needed
.

Got to be happy with that point.

Smith's plans for the match tonight were obviously ****ed up by Rashica's late injury but he made some changes before and during the match and we managed to get a draw.

We found a way to get a point. We didn't bottle it and go down with a whimper, we fought back and in the last 10 minutes could have sneaked a win.

I am happy with that.

My glass feels a bit half empty, we should have won that, and coupled with Leeds snatching a late winner, it definitely feels like a chance wasted. Yes, sure, it is an improvement in terms of being unbeaten, but we need to do better if we want to survive.

Bailey tweeted 'it was a ghost of times past'
It seemed pure Farkeball to me, slow and sideways / backwards passing with 11 opposition players in front of us.
It was only once Newcastle scored we started to get on it with any urgency.
I wonder if Dean had told them "you must not lose' rather than just go for it.

Harder to play against ten men behind the ball. A lot of our game plan was probably to play on the break, and use the pace of Tzolis.
