Recruitment Of Players Last Summer (Part 167)

I have just been reading the usual negative crap about NCFC's recruitment last summer (and also cries for Deano to be sacked) so I thought I'd have my say on the subject ..... some of the 'terrible recruits' are starting to show some form ... Rashica is a fan favourite, Lees-Melou is finally getting the chance to show that he is a good player, even poor ol' whipping boy Sarge has improved 100% and is growing in confidence, Kabak is generating excitement whenever he goes on a run and his defending was really good in the 2nd half v Chelsea, so there's hope for him ... the loan players Normann and Williams have been good but Gilmour has been very disappointing ... only Tszolis has been a disaster but some of that can be put down to the very public bollocking Farke gave him ... Farke's time had come and Smith has improved the team ... although there have been woeful performances on occasion, there have also been signs that the team can perform really well ... relegation is now a certainty (sorry folks) but in the Championship, with 2 or 3 new faces, I think this team will do ok ... promotion at the 1st attempt? not as runaway winners maybe, but they will have as good a chance as any of the others. :)

I’d defo be thinking of you winning the championship next season - I have a soft spot for Deano and hope he is given the time to bring you back up again.
Providing you provide Dean with a realistic war chest I see no reason, why he couldn’t keep you up. Keinan Davis is doing a good job at Forest and could be perfect foil for Pukki - also Connor Hourihane is most likely to be available for a nominal/ free.
Dean knows them both well and I feel they could be a good fit for you?
Tim iroegbunam is another of our highly rated youngsters who would benefit from a season long loan.
I really hope Deano still has credit in the bank and hope you are back soon.
Ps Deano is set to receive a hero’s welcome soon - of which the like will not be seen again for a visiting manager.

That's a very balanced view but I can't help thinking that most supporters don't put enough emphasis on our biggest failing in the big boys league this season.
Football evolves, quite rapidly sometimes, Farke for instance got passed by with his determination to stick to plan a.
One thing we've struggled to get to grips with this season is pressing.

1) Teams have beaten us by pressing with energy in an organised way so we haven't learnt how to deal with it effectively enough.
2) We haven't developed a pressing strategy with energy and organisation.

I haven't been watching any Championship games so I can't comment with authority on pressing in that league, however, I imagine we're going to need to be a bit more switched on to it if we want to be successful next year.

Yes, I certainly believe that some of our players aren't good enough but I can't see millions being spent this summer.
Energy and organisation in pressing can be done with any players being trained and coached, they don't have to be Messi to be organised.

Great post and thread, Numan. That was interesting to hear that some people were calling for Dean to go, which did surprise me a bit. Honestly, I think Dean Smith is the right person to get us promoted back to the Premier League next season. He has improved the squad since taking over, and has experience winning promotions before.

I hope he stays, and I suspect he will, as his stock won't be particularly high. Sacked from Villa, relegated with Norwich, hardly looks good on the CV if applying for another job!

Normann, Gilmour, Williams & Rupp definitely leaving this summer.
Some of the others too, if they can sell them, ie. Aarons, Cantwell, Krul, Gibson, Zimmermann & Pukki etc, whoever gets a half decent offer.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This information was provided by Michael Bailey, not a huge surprise :-

Krul wants to play in the World Cup
Pukki top earner
Rupp is crap & out of contract
Cantwell has had issues obv
Zimmermann not up to it
Gibson seriously out of favour

Basically, we'll have a smaller squad with the loan players returning & maybe a couple of cheap players coming in.

Don't dream too big...

Krul will have to up his game if he wants to play in the World Cup. If he doesn't he won't have a prayer.

Krul wants to play in the World Cup- He’s got no chance, Angus in next season and save on Tim’s wages
Pukki top earner- that’s fine, we need him
Rupp is crap & out of contract- he isn’t crap but is injury prone and can be replaced reasonably easily, possibly by Adshead or Gibbs ?
Cantwell has had issues obv - no shit Sherlock !
Zimmermann not up to it- time to say goodbye to Zimbo

It's a game of opinion, presently it's Dean Smith's which counts.
It'll be an interesting transfer window.

I suspect that we won't be getting many players in til the kids & returning loan players have shown what they can or can't do, and a few players have left for £££.
I'll even predict that we will be unlikely to have any serious incoming players before the preseason games have started or even the first games of the new season.

Yeah, I think we’ll start to get some sort of idea as to how Smith actually wants us to play from the players that leave and come in

Smith really shook up Villa's squad when he arrived .... he got rid of 25 players (none of whom have done anything much since) and brought in players like Mings, Watkins, Luiz, Targett, Konsa, Martinez, Bailey, Traore, Ings and, of course, Buendia .... Villa were on a bad run when he got the sack but they had lost key players through injury and Grealish was badly missed, like his replacement (Buendia) has been at Carrow Rd ... his legacy at Villa is much like that of Farke at Norwich ... well-loved by many but slated by others ... I reckon we will see a lot of changes to the squad over the next few months with the dead wood being off-loaded, a few new faces arriving, some of the loan players coming back and the youngsters getting a look-in.

I really hope you're right Numan, as Imo it's really needed otherwise we are going to be very ordinary next season.
