Scuba Diving

Anyone else on here dive?

I did a try dive in Fuerteventura (no marine life, not recommended!!) and loved it, so did my Open Water qualification last September in Egypt (little bit spoilt by doing my entry level qualification with a company who have been voted best in the world by SportDiver Magazine readers, in 30 metre visibility, and one of the most diverse marine eco-systems in the world - my 5th ever dive was on the 3rd best reef in the WORLD!!) and am doing a couple of days diving when I go to Turkey this year.

I've properly been bitten by the bug though and am now planning future holidays around scuba diving opportunities!

Just wondered if anyone else has got into it?

Had a wee try of it, used about half a bottle in a few minutes, realised that there is just something plain wrong about being underwater, but not drowning!

Would love to have persevered, but was doing another expensive hobby at the time (mountaineering) so didn't really think I could take it up.

I reckon if it was on offer if I was on holiday somewhere, I'd have another shot at it.

I had no interest in it until I ended up on Koh Tao in Thailand with a French lass who was dead set on learning to dive. Always been a bit scared of the sea and the creatures in it, but I overcame my initial trepidation and came away with an Open Water and Advanced Open Water. Highlights were playing the 'disco plankton' game on the night dive, seeing a bull shark, and swimming with the biggest shoal of angel fish you can imagine!

That was about five years ago, and I haven't dived since... would definitely consider doing it again in the right place, it was an experience I'll never forget!

Defo give it another try when you get chance Morty!

Wow that sounds awesome Agent Dale, I didn't see anything big but saw a couple of turtles and an eagle ray. We're doing Asia next summer (most likely will do our Advanced OW out there),I'm really looking forward to getting out there and seeing what I can find. Turkey will be pretty devoid of marine life I think but there's some nice wrecks in the area and I'm hoping to see an octopus or two too.

I really want to do a trip to Norway to snorkel with the Killer Whales, but it's expensive and cold so it's not at the top of my list yet!

Bull shark would scare the hell out of me though. I've always had an illogical fear of sharks, but now that I dive, I'm really looking forward to seeing them, but I would much rather see a Great White than a Bull shark. Most of the attacks blamed on GWs are actually Bull Shark attacks, and they can swim in fresh water as well as salt water... They've found them like 40 miles up the quays in Florida. Crazy.
