Anyone any idea about his injury or when he's expected back?

He began training last week according to Adams. So like Hooper, should be back soon.

I thought Howson was excellent in his first match back, and look forward to his contribution through the rest of the season.

Didn't exactly play like someone making his come back after a reasonably long injury absence, did he?

Almost everything he did was neat and tidy and there was quite a lot of energy to his performance - including a couple of brilliant sprints back towards our own goal chasing down Rotherham players.

Class act.

Sounds like the board are trying to appease the fans because of the lack of signings I reckon ;)  nah it's good news, decent player

Good player for us, sadly underrated by some, but is very much a strong compenent of our midfield and is almost always missed when not available, so I'm pretty happy with this news :)

Big fan of Howson. We always look a better side with him in the team, and as Indy says is also pretty underrated (particularly by people who aren't Norwich fans). In terms of all-round technically ability he's probably our best player.

I have to admit being disappointed in Howson since he came, simply because I still feel there is more to come from him that we havent seen - perhaps thats just two years of being shackled by Hughton's tactics I dont know, but when Howson was at Leeds I thought he was superb and was really pleased we'd signed him. I just feel like we still havent quite seen everything Howson has in his locker like was seen at Leeds. Perhaps this year will be his year. Maybe we need to be playing him a little further forward and not as a CM. He's not a magician like Hoolahan, but (now that Johnson has made his shooting effective) he is the second greatest threat we have from range. Cant rememebr who it was against, but last season Howson scored a goal with his left foot that was simply brilliant, mazy run through the middle then let rip. Id like to see him getting the chance to let rip more often and perhaps he doesnt get to do that playing a more disciplined role - look at the transformation in BJ we saw on pushing him forward.

Incidentally, I wonder if BJ would be an effective ACM - great physicality in the air and has learned how to shoot - could be an effective threat but also good foil territorially in that area in the way Holt was

I know what you mean to be fair. Every now and then he does something spectacular, but then we won't see that again for a while. His goal against Manchester City away for example, I'm not saying that I expect him to go on 50 yard runs, beating 4 players and then the keeper every week, but we don't see the flashes of brilliance like that often enough for me.

He's very consistent though, and very reliable. Rarely has a bad game but also never seems to have an amazing one. I thought he was superb today though, and as I said earlier in the thread, I'm pleased he's signed a new deal.

He's kind of like the central midfield version of Adam Drury, never amazing but never really poor either, always a 6.5/7 out of 10 every week, good squad player, when Mulumbu gets fit you feel he'll have a real fight on for his place in the starting 11, might just light a fire under him

I disagree, I think he's one of the first names on the team sheet. Johnson however...

They haven't given him that 4 year contract because they don't think he's the business.

he is quietly effective;   but he has fewer tackles,  interceptions assists and goals than his peers.    What is really a problem for us is that wes is a far better creative player so probably ha a hold on that midfield slot,  tettey better at defensive midfield and redmond better out wide.    rolled together he is the more complete all round player - yet there is still something slightly underwhelming.

for me I would start without him next sat;  not because he has done anything wrong,  more that other are more effective;  if he was suited to the left flank then he is streets ahead of what bj offers for all round play.

Howson made more tackles and clearances than Dorrans, had a higher passing accuracy and made 1 more "key" pass. They shared the same number of interceptions.

So I don't particularly see a case for saying others are more "effective".

Interesting, are neutrals seeing something we aren't? Am seeing a lot of opinion that he isn't in the best of form.

I think his form had dipped but he did OK on Monday,  not necessarily an 8/10 performance for me, but definitely better than some of his more recent games.   That score also suggests he was MOTM,  which is not what I saw either.

Being a goal scorer certainly boost the ratings - but its always good to have a norwich player make an appearance.

With scores like those it's probably based on lots almost meaningless stats or the goal has really inflated the score.

I think a neutral that knows Howson would wonder why he's not playing in his best position. A neutral that doesn't know Howson would think we have a really awkward right side.

Howson is solid wherever he plays, just hope for his sake that he works his way into playing centrally. Would think it'd take a big from dip from Wes for that to happen now though.
