Anyone else very impressed with his attitude in the face of a bit of abuse and some horrible luck? Desperate to see him do well for us.

I'm fully behind him, everyone seems to want him to do well for the club, but almost as much as they want him to do well for himself, Dont like the rumours of him going out on loan to build up his confidence, a season for a dutch international in the championship should easily solve his confidence problems, just need him to keep fit and be given his chance, too much swapping of him and hooper after his injury did neither of them any favours last season

Really like him but I fear he will be banging in goals abroad.

It'd be the perfect movie script if he fired us to promotion. I hope he at least gets his chance.

Would like to see him play in a team that plays to his strengths! Perhaps we can fulfill that this season!

Isn't his attitude about being subbed towards the end of last season, cause for concern? or has that been forgotten

I'm not bothered about that so much, it looked to me more like frustration at himself for not performing. That and he's probably not used to getting abuse from his own fans, given that he's had a very successful career to date.

Sky Sports News today saying he could be off on loan to St. Ettiene, would be gutted to see him go as it would be almost like admitting defeat in this chapter of his career.

On the other hand though if he is to go I'd rather they sold him so they could reinvest the money rather than loan him out

Trouble is that we would make a massive loss if we sold him. The season long loan is a good option, and if he has a good one it will either increase his value, or his worth to us next season. And it frees up his wages to use elsewhere.

I would rather he stayed here to try and prove himself rather than go out on loan.

Difficult to see his role other than as fourth choice striker. Lafferty and Grabban seem like they'll make a good pairing. What role is there for RVW? He's hardly an impact sub. I would be a lot more critical but I am impressed with his attitude (but not that of his agent).

Anyone keen to volunteer for van Wolfswinkel-watch? (its like that thing Bill Oddie did but with on loan Dutch strikers). Would be great if anyone who followed continental football or who lived out there would be able to give some feedback on how he does

Just saw some comment from Ricky, and using google translate here is what he said:

"I got out of a very difficult year. But I found and I have rarely been in top shape. Championship in as strong as the Premier League, it does not forgive. Perhaps I was too impatient. When I was a little recovered from an injury, I already wanted to play hard. Because of that I followed the injury. retrospect, it was not smart, but I wanted so much help the team to get by. I'm very realistic, I did not play well in Norwich. football played in England was not easy for me. Everybody knows that there is more live in the way you play. "

I don't think he's playing today though, didn't see his name on the team sheet. However I think he's on the bench.

Ricky only got a cameo tonight coming on in the 89th minute. With both Saint-Etienne strikers scoring, he may be struggling for game time this year. In the end Saint-Etienne won 3-1.

Absolutely. It can't be nice to be deemed a failure, I don't think any of us would really enjoy that label. Hoping he gets a real chance at SE, hoping he won't spend the year playing 10-20 minutes each game.

Indeed, if he ends up playing 'bit' roles, it's not going to do either of us any good.
