Would be great to go into the international break on a high, and a few players looking like they could do with a rest!

Wouldn’t be surprised if there are one or two changes. Might be tough on those that have contributed to the unbeaten run but perhaps we could do with a little freshening up

I'd probably make a couple of changes, Vrancic to come in for Cantwell to give the lad a rest, and maybe Pinto in for Aarons for the same reason, it's a long season yet, no need to have the youngsters burnt out before xmas

Yeah ideally Cantwell, Pukki, Aarons, Tettey, Stiepermann and Lewis could probably all do with a rest, but there's no way we can leave all of them out. As said above Pinto will probably come in for Aarons, and Vrancic for Cantwell. The form they're in we can't really leave out Pukki, Stiepermann or Tettey, and we have no-one to come in for Lewis. At least after this game most of those players get a 2 week break. Great news as well that Hernandez will be in the squad for this one, even if it is just on the bench.

On paper Stoke probably have the strongest team in the league, but they've been inconsistent at best this season, and at home in the form we're in there's no reason why we can't win this game. If we can we'll go into the international break in a fantastic position. Looking forward to this!

Excuse my lack of searching myself but is Trybull nearly ready to play?

Trybull is just on the bench these days. Do you mean King Kenny?

If so, his injury hasn't cleared up as they hope. However, I don't think there's any chance of him having mattjarvisitis.

I meant Trybull.
I've not seen McClean play but I hear he's best thing since Mr Hovis had that accident with the knife in the bread factory.

A bit shocked that he hasn't rested anybody for this game after it was so obvious we were fatigued towards the end of Wednesday's fixture.

Disappointing. Run had to come to an end sometime, but to an OG? Still think there should have been some rotation.

Agreed, Farke did the exact same thing last season not rotating enough when there was fixture congestion. I think there were enough warning signs against Derby to show that we needed a few pairs of fresh legs in the side, and think this should have been when Rhodes and Vrancic came into the side.

But I guess this defeat gives him license to change things up now, Hernandez starting in the next game perhaps.

The bloody scum won as well!

Can't say I'm too excited about Cantwell at the moment. Him and Buendia aren't really hurting teams.

Wrong choice taking Stiepermann off.

I might have to take responsibility for that one lads, I was literally trying to remember a couple of days ago the last time we scored an own goal, so yeah my bad.

Really frustrating game though. Second game in a row we've dropped points courtesy of a lucky goal for the opposition. If that own goal doesn't go in then I don't doubt we go on and probably get 3 points. Has to be said as well if Stoke's plan for this season is to hope the other team score an own goal and then park the bus for over an hour then they're really in trouble. Expected a lot more from them considering their squad. Ultimately though they got the 3 points. Have to say as well Ryan Woods is a fantastic footballer.

Overall we were decent today, particularly first half. Second half, despite all our possession, we didn't really trouble Stoke enough. I assumed when Rhodes came on in about the 70th minute our plan was gonna be to start playing more long balls up towards him, yet we didn't do it once until the 89th minute. We should've just bombarded Stoke with aerial balls, like teams do to us, yet we kept trying to pass the ball into the goal. All second half really we were moving the ball too slowly. Turning back inside when we had good crossing opportunities, and for some reason we seemed to exclusively looked to go down the left hand side, never using Aarons or Buendia on the right. I also think Pukki and Cantwell should've been the players to go off for Rhodes and Hernandez, rather than Stiepermann and Buendia. Stiepermann was causing problems, and Pukki in all honesty was having a shocker. Hernandez also would've been better suited coming on on the left hand side, than on the right I think.

Probably would've given Aarons man of the match. In general the whole back 4 was good though, just a shame for Klose he scored the own goal. Leitner and Tettey were decent as well. Leitner must've completed more passes today than Stoke's entire team.

Good though that most of our squad gets a rest for a couple of weeks, though in all honesty Pukki is the one who needs it most yet he'll be going away with Finland which is annoying. Still plenty of reason for optimism, and I was pleased with the reception the players got at the end, as I was actually expecting some fans to typically overreact and boo the players, but thankfully that didn't happen. Hopefully we can regroup, and pick up the form we were in before this game.

I really enjoyed the way we played in the first half, although we didn’t really test Butland enough. The blokes that sit behind me will never get it, still complaining about tippy tappy stuff. I was a bit surprised that there weren’t any changes to the starting lineup, but then he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. He kept faith with the players that got us on this run and that’s fair enough I guess, particularly for the young lads.

thought it was a good performance today and we certainly didn't deserve to lose, but hey that's football, if we go on runs where we only lose once every 8 games from now to the end of the season I'll be more than happy

I think Cantwell is causing teams more problems than Buendia is though.

The lads gave it all yesterday and were obviously unlucky. In a way was nice to see how gutted they all were.

Yeah. I'm not really sure playing off the left is Todd's game.

Stats say that we managed 3 shots on target.
However, we were overdue a draw/loss purely because of the psychological pressure winning a few matches in a row.
Having a run of winning games or being unbeaten creates pressure, and with each game the pressure increases exponentially. Not many teams have extended runs like that.
From the league table point of view, it's better to win a few then lose the odd game, rather than drawing games, doesn't feel better, but it gives you more points in the league.

I’ve seen many comments on twitter, etc saying the team needed rotation. I don’t agree personally, think if there’s a winning combo then stick with it. I’m not convinced we were tired either, just shithoused (apols if I can’t use this word!) from a team that got lucky with the OG. Just watched Match of The Day, seen that Nuno has stuck with the same line-up for Wolves for eight games. Players who are playing well should be played and not dropped IMHO!

To be honest I am one of those who think that Farke should have rotated a little bit for this fixture, because of how knackered a few players looked towards the end of the Derby fixture in midweek.

Stiepermann and Pukki in particular looked exhausted, and its asking a lot of Cantwell to play so many 90's so soon into his senior career. We're playing with fire a little bit expecting Tettey to play so much football and in Trybull / Thompson / Godfrey there is surely a player from those three that can come into that side and do well in his role.... I'd have him down as a player who can do 1 x 90 per calendar week now to be honest, rest him for one of the two games when we have a midweek.

But I guess that Farke can now use the defeat as an excuse to change things up a little bit, would at least expect Hernandez to come back into the side now to be honest.

I'm guessing that Farke just thought that he could squeeze another game out of the same XI before the international break, but I personally think we should be using Rhodes and Vrancic a bit more.

McLean possibly ready for involvement after the international break?

It does amuse me that sometimes (particularly when a team isn't on a great run) a manager/coach will make changes and justify/explain it as picking a team based on the opposition etc.

But when you're on a winning run that "logic" can go out the window and you no longer need to consider the opposition.

And that's not a Farke specific comment, just a general football thing.
