agreed.  I think it struggled to get up any steam at all,   then wham bang like the end of season clear out.   I thought Harrington signed for 7 seasons but have not been able to find anything concrete. There are rumours all over...  Emila Clarke   (Dragon Lady)  said nothing really in an interview regarding Harrington only that was a 50-50 chance  that says nowt.

The biggest clue I found was from Martin .. but as the following says accidently .. I do not believe he does anything by accident.

Daren't  read any of this thread. Came to this late about a couple of months ago. Thought I'd see what all of the fuss was about. Completely hooked, watching them on Amazon  ( Top Gear now signed up too, excellent). Just finished season 3. Although if I'm honest I still find it a bit hard to follow whats going on at times. Love the shocks and surprises. Very difficult to look at any media pages without seeing something written or picture spoilers though.

Being fair, the later books had some fairly slow sections as well, so it's no surprise that we're seeing similar in the TV show recently, although I'm personally intruiged to see exactly how far they'll end up verging away from Martin's original vision, as generally the changes they have made have been relatively unimportant but made more sense for TV, with the odd major change being done pretty well IMHO.

As I have no desire to read the books and this is a spoiler thread, could you enlighten me as to some of the changes so far?

A good example is the storyline regarding Jaime Lannister going to Dorne to bring Myrcella home, in the books she was sent there with a member of the Kingsguard (Arys Oakheart),but he ends up in the bed of Doran Martell's sister who initially convinces him to support Myrcella against Tommen for the Iron Throne, but he ends up get slaughtered by the Martell's after killing 2 of them.

The entire side plot was omitted from the series (presumably because Oakheart was never a major character throughout and they didn't feel the need to introduce him just for this section of the TV show).

Similarly, in the books, Jaime Lannister gets training in using his left hand by Ser Ilyn Payne after having his right removed, whereas in the TV show, we've only seen Payne 2-3 times and instead Jaime was training with Bronn instead. In fact, Ilyn Payne is much more prominent in the book, and almost seems a complete afterthought in the tv show.

I could go on, but I'm sure you get the drift. Nothing overly major is THAT different, it's mainly been minor changes apparently to fit in better with the flow and so that viewers don't get overwhelmed with a boatload of minor characters that in truth are only really relevant for maybe a few pages etc.

Do you think the lack of Ser Ilyn in the series is down to the actor battling cancer in real life? Or does it just make sense for tv?

I think it's impossible to say until one of the producers sheds more light on the decision making process.

Personally I thought Payne was a strong character from the books and should certainly have featured far more than he did in the show, but as you say, there could be genuine reasons behind this.

Just finished watching all 5 series. Fantastic stuff, easily my favourite programme outside of Breaking Bad. Have to say though I don't think any of the series were as good as series 1. For me that series set everything up nicely, and since then it's actually been a little bit slow properly starting. I really thought series 5 would be when things start to happen, but it just took ages to get going, and by the time he did it was practically over. Brilliant show though, cannot wait for series 6. My favourite character is actually Daenerys Targaryen. I watched each series expecting her to march on Kings Landing at some point in each one, but disappointingly she hasn't yet, and considering the situation she was in at the end of the last episode it doesn't look like she will in series 6 either, when it feels like it's been building up to it for a long time. Love Tyrion as well, Dinklage is a fantastic actor.

Predictions for series 6:

**Contains spoilers**

Lady Melisandre brings Jon Snow back to life. Snow, Melisandre and Davos then leave the wall and at some point meet up with Theon and Sansa, as well as possibly Brienne.
Bran Stark will return, and will have a lot of power after being trained by the 3 eyed Raven. He will also be re-united with Jon and Sansa at some point.
The white walkers get over the wall killing whoever remains in the night's watch, as well as the Bolton's at castle black.
Bran will use his power to help stop the white walkers in some capacity.
The remaining Lannisters will hear that Tyrion is now in Meeren and will attempt to track him down and kill him.
Daenerys will eventually be rescued from her current predicament, and will march on Dorne.
Theon and Peter Baylish will die, as well as one of the big characters, such as Jamie Lannister.
