I'll shy away from the phrase "must win" but I would put this firmly in the bracket of "could really do with winning".

I think not being in the bottom 3 come January could sway some potential transfer targets. Yeah, we're not going to get many better chances for 3 points than an out of form Swansea at home. Rather close to a must win.

Play good attacking football and the wins will come against teams at home. Play with no fear.

I am assuming Jarvis will be out with his knee injury which limits our options further in defence,  otherwise it would have been interesting to see if the brady at right back experiment would have continued.   I would like to see us go with a 4141/4231 formation with mulumbu the box to box-er and hope the defence holds out.  The only question is howson v Redmond to defend the right flank threat;  but redmonds greater attacking threat holds sway bearing in mind we concede whether he plays or not.

Whittaker  Bennett  Bassong   Olsson

                   Tettey

Redz  Mulumbu Wes  Brady

I don't think we're quite in 'Must Win' territory yet (although pretty darn close),I'd suggest that this is a Must Not Loose.

Need a good, solid performance from the defence to settle the nerves and start rebuilding some confidence, and lay a solid foundation for the quick passing, attacking football that we know we can play.

We've a good record against Swansea in the prem (although they're not in the best of form themselves, and we all know what happens to out-of-form teams when they play Norwich...)

                        Rudd

Whittaker Bennett Bassong Olsson

        Mulumbu              Tettey

Redmond          Wes             Brady

                       Mbokani*

Redmond, Wes and Brady to have licence to float around being a general, attacking nuisance.

Time to give Big John Ruddy a break.  It worked wonders for Hart a few seasons ago and the combination of a gentle kick up the backside and taking the pressure off him for a couple of matches could see him back to his best.

*If Mbokani still has the sniffles, replace with Jerome.

I agree in general.  This is not a must win but it is a must not lose and a it would be very nice for all sorts of reasons to win game.   We could and probably should win.

I agree the suggested teams save that I think it would be harsh bordering on insulting to drop Jerome after his performance last week.  Also, given that he is by all accounts a very prickly character, it would be very counterproductive to upset him gratuitously.  He has earned a start against Swansea.

It is far more comfortable looking down than up and with Bournemouth playing Newcastle, a draw would suit us and no more than a point for Sunderland against Saints. Villa should lose so it will be a chance to put a bit of a points gap on them. I don't think looking at a point is good enough. So to that extent I would say must with a lower case m.

Re Mbokani/Jerome - Agree that it is harsh and, if you're correct and Jerome is somewhat prickly then it would most certainly be counter-productive.

My reasoning is quite simple - I think Mbokani is a better footballer.  This is to take nothing away from Jerome, who is bloody brilliant, but in the short time he has been here I think Mbokani has shown glimpses of being a top class Prem striker.

Having said all that I certainly wouldn't be upset or calling for AN's head if Jerome started on Saturday.

As close as a "must win" there is, even if just for team (and Manager) confidence reasons, a home loss I feel would be hard to take with Chelski and Arsenal coming up, but a win would do wonders!

As for the team he will play, I dont see last weeks team with Brady at RB an experiment, it was a necessity due to Whittaker's injury, plus Brady is such a good footballer he can fit several positions, no wonder Hull wanted to hold on to him.

Up front Jerome for me, I just think that right now he is better suited to the style of play, particularly as my guess is that Wes will be back, I also think he gives more energy than Mbokani, who can come on against tired legs of course.

We have still quite many worse opponents left before mid season goal so getting points here would be important as pressure starts to build up longer the season goes. After this game we have Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton, Spurs and ManU in next 7 games. Also two "six point" games with Watford and Villa so even thought we are still clear from the bottom it would be good time to get those three points as they very well might be equal to what we get from the rest of the games before new year.

Alex Neil saying in the presser, when asked about Ruddy, that no ones place is safe. And that Matt Jarvis going to be out for some weeks with a knee injury.

Mbokani only managed on training session suggesting Cj will start while wisdom is fit,  just on bench, at rb or will it mean we can repeat 3cbs from last weekend? (I hope not)

Interesting that you mention "young" Bennett bringing stability to the defence and then mention signs of Bassong being unreliable at Man City.

The stats show that Bassong did almost as much defending on his own as Bennett and Martin combined last weekend.

Didn't Swansea consider us their bogey team last time in this league, or did we screw that up in our final season?

Holt always seemed to score against them.

For me it is a "must not lose", but if we do draw I'd much rather it be a 2-2 than a 0-0, because I'm clinging on to us not having struggled for goals this season as my hope that investment in defence in January would mean we'll be fine over the course of the season.

If the goals were to dry up too then we've got no chance. If keeping clean sheets means playing 5 defenders at home and forgetting how to score goals, then I'd honestly us rather just play Kevin Keegan style gung-ho football for the next 8 games and hope we can come out of a couple at 4-3 instead of 3-4.
