Adams said last week wanted to give him new contract. I suppose with the money they got from Grabban and the Lallana sell on fee, they have money to spend. If theyve offered say £1m thats too good to turn down when Tettey, Johnson, O'Neill & Howson all ahead of him and him having 1yr left on his contract.

Disappointing if true. With Fer and Surman going that leaves Wes as the only source of creativity in our central midfield and in a 46 game season he's not going to be able to do it alone.

My thoughts on this..... Adams wants people to commit now or leave. Those out of contract in a year are being forced to commit, or are available for transfer.
Pilkington, cashed in whilst we can.
Snodgrass, probably unrealistic to give a pay rise to, cashed in.
Surman told to commit, next thing we know he is linked to Bournemouth. Either he signs or is sold.
This is good business sense, and the same ultimatum that Poyet gave to Connor Wickham - as I mentioned here: Connor Wickham Given Ultimatum.
Bennett and Rudd have signed a deal. That will leave just Tettey, Turner & Bunn out of contract at the end of this season if Surman doesn't sign.
We paid a fee for Surman, why would we let him leave on a free transfer if we can avoid it?

I don't begrudge Surman a move - probably best for all concerned in the circumstances.
However I find the timing interesting, coming so soon after we let Pilks - another left sided midfielder - go
Redmond is better on the right, Hoolahan has shown time and time again that he cannot really operate on the left of midfield. Also on the right we have Elliot Bennett and Josh Murphy. So have we got a left sided midfielder waiting in the he wings or is the plan going to be Grabban or Olsson - I also noted that Lafferty played out on the left hand side frequently today.
(I may be wrong about the side preferences of some of those midfielders btw- after two years of inverted wingers I'm not sure who should be where! But I think I'm right that we have many more right sided midfielders than left?)

We don't know if its true yet Killiecanary, we don't know whether the Fer one is true either.
This is Sky Sports News we are talking about, the business which has a vested interest in making up stories to prop up their sky bet business. If anybody were to make up a believable rumour about Surman then they would definitely choose Bournemouth, so could be complete BS.
The Bournemouth manager has said that he is interested in Surman, but Adams has said that he wants to tie him down to a new contract. So really the ball is in Surman's court, he has a contract here if he wants it, or he can push for a move to Bournemouth.

We've just won 3-0 with one of our new signings scoring a wonder goal, and people are panicking because we might lose a player who has featured 5 times for us in over two calender years, and frankly didn't impress in the slightest against Wolves?
I'd like Surman to stay, but hardly the end of the world if he doesn't - especially if we are bringing in Kris Commons, a player who has torn this league to shreds several times.

My point though is that if either Fer or Surman go, I wouldn't be too upset about either as long as the fee is right.
I do worry about the left hand side of midfield though - and the fact that I would be equally worried if Surman stays confirms my thought that it won't be the end of the world if he does leave.
I think Fer is a done deal though. But with. Howson to come back that doesn't bother me too much either.
By the way was I the only one wondering about the number of attempted 'showboats' Leroy tried today in the he brief time he was on?

Surman looked good in pre-season, but shakier against Wolves. If he goes to AFC B I wouldn't begrudge him the move. Think DM will make sure the money will be right.
Heart would like Fer to stay, head tells me he won't.
Howson to come back. O'Neill won't be spectacular, but won't let us down imo.
Still 2 weeks of the transfer window to go, but NA seemed to dismiss the Kris Commons rumours yesterday :-(

If Surman doesn't want to commit to the club long term then it's 100% the right move to sell him. I like Surman and he played well in the Championship last year but I'm not that upset if this is true. Earlier this pre-season we were saying we have too many midfielders to keep happy, so I'm not surprised to see a few players leaving. Surman has said several times how important regular first team football is to him at this stage in his career, maybe we couldn't give him the guarantees he wanted.

"We can't talk about anyone else`s players. All I can tell you is that when Andrew Surman was here last year he did incredibly well for the team and he's a good player."
Reads a little like it is a possibility for them but nothing is happening at the minute, whats the betting that somebody would need to come in before he can leave - Kris Commons perhaps?

Much as I like Surman and want him to stay, I think Adams is right to say sign or go. The key thing for Surman is his desire for first team football and he would get more of that at Bournemouth (like Callum Wilson). Adams wants him to stay, but only if he's fully committed to City.

What do we think the commit or leave stance means for Tettey?
Wouldn't be surprised if the player is holding out for a move but would sign if nothing comes up this week. Would be a shame to lose him with the start he's made.

I don't think we would miss Surs all that much. At best he will be a peripheral player this season. If he was blessed with pace the story may be different, he has undoubted abilities, but with our tempo greatly raised this season he will not be so easy to accommodate.
