What a win!
Still feels like we’re very much going through the gears, but this early in the season to be a point off top and beating a side like Swansea is absolutely brilliant. Worth noting as well as our 7 game unbeaten, we’ve only conceded 8 goals in 11 games this season. We look so much more secure defensively than I think we ever have under Farke.
What an impact from Bali Mumba though. Have to admit when he came on for Sorenson I was wondering what Farke was thinking considering some of more attacking options we had on the bench, but the introduction of him and Josh Martin really added some impetus into what was quite a lethargic 2nd half performance. I was also getting frustrated in the last 15 minutes or so that we weren’t bringing Vrancic or Idah on for Stiepermann, as a lot of moves seemed to be breaking down due to him taking too many touches or playing a sloppy pass (same with Buendia tbf),but again, a good job Farke is paid to make these decisions and not me. A great strike for the winner, the sort of goals Stepi was scoring in our title-winning season.
Man of the match though has to be Tim Krul. Swansea, in particular Jamal Lowe, will be ruing how poor their finish was, but no doubting Krul kept us in the game with some top saves. Hanley and Zimmermann were also superb, as was Ollie Skipp. Didn’t think any of our attackers put in particularly brilliant performances, but hopefully over the international break we can do some work on making us a bit more fluid going forward.
What a superb turn-around it’s been since the last international break, and hopefully after this one, when we’ve for a few key players back from injury, we can kick on even further. The strength we have in depth is just scary, hard to imagine any team in the league has a deeper squad than us.
