Pink'un getting a new forum...

Well if you all desert this place then at least I'll be remembered as the man who made the Pink'un do something for the first time in a decade  :lol:

Although I'd like to think that for a club the size of Norwich there will be room for two decent forums, most other clubs our size seem to have multiple busy forums (e.g. Leicester!).

100% agree, the forum was something from the 90's but it was the posters that made it unbearable. I won't be going anywhere.

While it lacks moderation I will never use it again.  It has become a trolls haven and reasoned discussion has become a rarity.  They have had years to sort it out but have done nothing.

This forum is 100 times better than Pink Un. I was a member for a little while a couple of years ago but it was truly terrible. No moderation and all these posters with ill informed opinions, as well as 5 or 6 different topics for the same subject. I had a look when Hughton was sacked and there must've been at least 15 topics all about Hughton or our new manager. I really like this forum. I haven't been a member long but everyone on here is very nice, and can all make reasoned arguments, unlike 90% of the posters on Pink Un.

So what's happening? Is there basically another Norwich forum being created?

The Pink'un are just upgrading their forum, which was inevitable really, and something which I actually consider positive. 

I created this forum so that Norwich fans had at least one decent forum, and so I can't complain if they end up with two. Contrary to what the Pink'un people probably want to believe, I didn't create it to upset or damage them. 

I do find it amusing how they have worked themselves up into such a panic though, over something I knocked together and launched in two days with perhaps £100 to £150 (granted, I've put in some serious hours since).  

Leicester City are a similar size to us, they have two very big forums:

• Foxestalk.co.uk
• Talkingballs.co.uk

And I know from just browsing them that plenty of posters are present on both. So I'd expect us to be able to coexist just fine. 

The only conclusion that I can draw from the Pink'uns reaction to this forum over the past 34 days (including my 116 year forum ban, removing signatures to prevent their members sharing the link, being blocked by their journalists on twitter) is that they shat themselves, probably unnecessarily. 

They should be grateful that I launched the forum when I did, because a week or so after (and I've been meaning to get in touch with this fella again on Skype, and he is on the member list here at NorwichTalk.com), the webmaster of Talkchelsea.net got in touch with me and told me that: 1) he found my twitter account because he was looking into creating a Norwich forum, and 2) He actually lives in Norwich, and 3) Sometimes goes to Norwich games. 

He may well still be planning that, who knows!

Ironically, some of the worst offenders have migrated here as well as many of the posters who tried to act the right way.  Here though, the miscreants behave themselves and engage with the issues adultly.

I used to look at the Pink-Un- but over last few years -got tired and bored of endless in-house fighting -with no interesting views -  so gave up years ago -This one seems more reasonable.

Me too, and I'd add 'hate' to the obnoxious posters over there. I still post on Not606 and occasionally on the Pink'Un site, but this is by far the best of the three.

Like the others here, I grew tired of the constant petty in fighting and bickering on the Pink Un site. It seemed they just left it to fester but yet panicked when this board started up.

I hope they do improve the site and I'll still log in from time to time, but this is where I'll be posting. Not there.

I think it's disgusting that they banned you for starting this site Canary Boy. Viva NorwichTalk!

I must admit that when certain posters start spouting their wind up/provoking/double standard posts, I just ignore them now. I haven't got enough time in my life to worry about it. I'll just leave them to their sad little existences, from behind their bedroom curtains , which are, I would wager, always closed, even on a sunny day.

There are still plenty of good people on there, but there is an element of me that thinks the Pink Un, has certainly got big issues to address, and who knows, this might be a catalyst for a good future there. 

Long may both of these forums (and others) thrive for the good of Norwich fans, and the trolls can go and play with themselves, in a darkened room

I still use the the pink'un for the news, but haven't looked at their message board since norwichtalk arrived, and don't plan to.

I find it ridiculous that it took a better forum for them to realise a lot of work needed doing at their end (such as the addition of chat and an upgrade to their forum etc etc). For that reason alone I'm out of their forum for good. It shouldn't have taken being pushed into to doing it. Its much like a lot of their journalism... lazy!

Which is fair enough, they are a corporation and I'm not doing this for money (which is just as well, because it is costing me money  :lol: )

But that was the entire point from the start, I wanted to create an independent Norwich City supporters forum.  

Don't understand why the Pink'un didn't pre-empt this happening one day though, pretty pathetic that they waited for somebody to come along and open a forum on software from this decade. Risking their messageboard monopoly for the sake of what amounts to a few hundred quid for a one-time license fee for any of the three or four best software providers if hosting on their own servers.

I'll be staying. There is a definite difference in behaviour on here from the Pinkun. Though with a new forum those who havent yet crossed over are unlikley to do so, which is a shame. Funny how after not bothering to invest any time or attention on the forum the minute a rival gets set up, they raise their game. This demonstrates they could have done this all along, yet chose not to. Reminds me of another (fictional) example where there was a monopoly...

The problem is that if this forum becomes as big as the PinkUn one, it will start to attract all the weirdos and fighting that was synonymous with the PinkUn. Also, whilst this board has been very pleasant so far (maybe a little too nice), I wonder if it would remain that way should Norwich go through a period like it did last season building up to Hughton's sacking and relegation. It's pretty easy for us all to get along while everything is going so well.

It doesn't matter how nice the website is, or how 'up-to-date' a forum is - it will always be about having a critical mass of people. That is what has killed previous attempts to 'overthrown' the PinkUn (along with over judicious moderating). Will be interesting to see if this site survives in the long run, but I doubt it will ever overtake the PinkUn in popularity.

This forum will attract its own members in time though, especially when it starts getting more Google love. 

The Pink'un seem to be of the mindset that they need to create a great forum to stop people flocking to NorwichTalk.com. 

That is perhaps partially true, but I'd argue that they should have created a great forum 5 years ago to stop people flocking to facebook groups and twitter. 

They will have lost far more users and readers through their failure to maintain their site over the past few years then they could ever lose to NorwichTalk.com, and whilst I obviously saw the Pink'un as a means to attract some users - most of our newest signups have been finding us from twitter, and before that we got a good 8 to 10 from a few facebook ads. I've got money deposited in an adwords account to buy the top spot for 'Norwich City Forum' for a while.

So my focus isn't even on getting members from the Pink'un anymore, think most regulars over there will know about us by now. 

If the Pink'un see this as a NorwichTalk.com vs Pinkun.com battle then they need to broaden their horizons and think outside of the box, they will have lost users because of the rise of social media and smartphones and a failure to modernise their site accordingly. 

I don't know whether their new forum will be fully responsive for smartphones etc, but IP board 4.0 will be when we get our free upgrade, and I honestly think that by making this site 100% mobile friendly we could gain far more members from twitter (where almost everybody is on an iphone or similar) than we ever could picking over the dregs of however many sane and decent people still read or post on the Pink'un....

I am just settling in on this forum, but I am not going anywhere.

I still look at the pink un and occasionally post, but this will be my main board. There are still some good and knowledgeable posters on the pink un so if you can avoid the twaddle there can be some interesting reads.

Like others I got fed up with the bickering and lack of moderation.

No doubt you are completely correct, because this site will never have paid writers creating news articles, will only ever be user driven content. 

This site is only competing with its messageboard though. Would it surprise you if I told you that I measured the number of posts on this forum and that forum over a 24 hour period the day before yesterday, and the Pink'un had just 60% more posts for that 24 hour period?

For a site which is 34 days old that is pretty good progress don't you think?

I like this forum and will be saying. Never been on the Pink un forum to post as the lack of tolerance of views did not appeal to me. Not 606 I has and still is a good site (and I still use it), where on the whole tolerance has been much better and there has been decent debate. I did notice on both sites that the Hughton era really increased the on fighting on both sites.

This site has lots more modern aspects that are good and if there was one area that could be looked at would be getting opposition fans to get involved with banter, but that can sometimes go a bit overboard. Perhaps just a page for Binner fans?
