Completely mad we have loaned him to watford no one will convince we otherwise what is Adams thinking?
It's a difficult one. For whatever reason, it seems that he did not want to play for us, perhaps even to train with our squad. We cannot sack him without the possibility of our breaking the contract with him and, in any case, Adams obviously felt that a fit again Bassong might return fired up to play again.
So the options seem to be
- continue to pay his salary until the contract runs out, but with him turning out with the youngsters in some games.
- ditto, with the intention of selling him in January, if he is willing to go.
Perhaps a rival is not the most desirable recipient form the loan, although I assume that there is a clause in the loan agreement which prevents him playing against us, but he could have been choosy over which club he went to, rejecting any which did not suit. We could have finished up paying a salary to a player for doing nothing for the rest of his contract.
We don't know the source of his problem, nor what agreement, if any, he made with our club. We are committed to paying his salary until the end of the contract, unless he breaks it from his side. As things stand, it seems that he would be prepared to play, but because of his problem we would not want to select him for a game.
