30 players, is that about right?

Can we assume that if we ship the likes of Becchio that he will be replaced? Will Ricky be replaced? Are we still shy of a centre back perhaps?

One new CB and one new CM, we need a bit of added steel and mobility in both positions.

the quicker we get that useless lump badsong out of the carra the better hopefully we will get another centre back to replace him. it will be hard attracting players with alan partridge in charge.

In addition to what we have? Or replacing Fer and Bassong if they move on?
In addition to Fer definitely, I see Fer in a more advanced role than anchor man, similar to Toure's new role at Man City. Whilst I'm not there behind closed doors, it appears Bassongs days are numbered so i'd say to replace him. We'd then have Bennett, Turner, R Martin and the new guy to compete at CB, Martin and Whitts at RB and then Olsson and Garrido at LB. I wonder if Adel Gaifiti is considered this guy tho? I haven't really seen much of him so I dunno if he's good enough.

Centre Mid I see Johnson as the only real gritty DM we have atm if Tettey leaves (even if he doesn't he has fitness issues) and he doesn't convince me so I'd like someone there to do the dirty work leaving Fer, Howson, Surman and Wes to compete to do the pretty work depending on the system. I'd like Chalobah from Chelsea, I think he's a cracking player.

Up front if RvW leaves, I can see room for a low risk loan from the Premiership to supplement Grabban, Lafferty, Hooper and the youngsters (Becchio will probably leave)

I'd be very surprised if Chalobah didn't end up on loan at a Premiership club, but if he doesn't then he'd be a fantastic loan signing.

I don't see any harm in Gafaiti being the fourth-choice centre back; Martin, Turner and Bennett will likely play the vast majority of games, and a bit of experience in League Cup games or the odd run-out from the bench will aid his development.

Unless a great loan striker who will really push the existing strikers becomes available, I'd rather we stick with Grabban, Lafferty and Hooper; as with Gafaiti, a bit of experience for Loza and/or Morris can't be a bad thing.

I'd also like to see our young players given a chance this year, but there's a lot at stake. Chalobah is a good shout, as is Nathan Ake. Up front Patrick Bamford could be a possibility (he had 8 goals in 21 games on loan at Derby last year). All three are said to be interesting Boro at the moment.

I only have 29 players on the 'current squad' forum, can anybody work out which one I've missed?

EDIT: Worked it out, it's Reece Hall-Johnson

IMO, the only youth players who will feature in league games this year will be the Murphys, Loza and Gafaiti.

Wouldn't be surprised if Carlton Morris was given a decent chance as well.

I don't see any new arrivals, other than maybe a CB, unless someone leaves. Clearly it seems that Ricky is off so maybe we'll see a striker come in, but I don't see us bringing in another MF unless Fer goes, particularly now that O'Neill seems to be done and dusted to replace Fox. Becchio and Bassong are clearly marked for offloading so that will free up two spaces but the problem is that there's little point in adding too many squad players to the wage bill. That's the reason for the apparent lack of activity, not lack of funds. I suspect that if the right player came along we would swoop but we won't simply sign numbers.

Adams and co will be praying that we hold on to people because replacing the likes of Fer in the last few days of the window would be a nightmare.

RvW leaving may clear the way for us to sign a defender. IMO, we're OK elsewhere unless anyone leaves, of course.

I'd say that 4 of the original squad listed are still fringe players (Matthews, Gafaiti, Jacob Murphy and Hall-Johnson),which makes it 26+4. Then there's the uncertainty around Bassong, Bunn and Becchio. If they all leave it's 23+4. RvW has now gone out on loan, but O'Neil has come in on a two year contract. That looks to be a reasonable squad for the Championship unless more leave (other than Bassong, Bunn and Becchio). Others may join though as well, of course.
