Thinking about events recently, I realise I've been asking myself why the club chose not to stick with Adams. Then I realised that I have been treating the situation as if Adams was sacked. Adams is supposed to have resigned (suggesting the club were happy to continue under him)
But its that one sentence 'agreed to resign' that has resonated with me. And also his mooted return in July in a new role (which sounds like a severence package)
I dont believe for a minute that Adams fell on his sword completely out of the blue and completely of his own doing. I dont think he was pressured either, I feel it was most likely 'by mutual consent'
So why not phrase it like that?
Do other fans think he was sacked, that he fell on his own sword, or that it was mutual consent?
I've found myself wondering what Adams thinks about this appointment, in the same way I wondered what Hughton thought - but then I rememebere this is supposed to be voluntary and no sour grapes.
I just cant believe Adams was willing to give up so easily - he doesnt strike me as a quitter. So I think there was a meeting and they took a group decision which Adams was involved in, so not a sacking as such. But I dont think the board were happy to continue, and the swiftness of Neils appointment doesnt strike me as the board being taken by surprise (though they should always have a 'go to' list)
I just find it odd that its being made out he resigned. 'Agreed to resign' makes me wonder if there were some conditions to his appointment in the first place (ie a certain level of success has to be achieved by this point in the year or you fall on your sword), a 'gentleman's agreement?', which was perhaps invoked by our exit from the cup, and which might explain the surprisingly strong team for that game.
Thoughts people?
