Gary Holt to Kilmarnock

There are rumours on a Scottish football forum that Gary Holt will be joining Kilmarnock as their manager in the summer.

At first I dismissed this as silly, who arranges to appoint a manager at a later date?

But their current manager's contract expires at the end of the season, they are on a long run of rubbish form but don't have any real danger of relegation because of how rubbish St Mirren and Ross County are, and this would make total sense when you consider that Neil Adams will be returning to the club in a 'new role' in July.

Interesting....this hasn't surfaced yet on the main killie fans forum where I post regularly.

Allan Johnston, the current manager, has not had a great run and isn't very popular with many fans, as he is viewed as the puppet manager of a phenomenally unpopular chairman. To be fair to AJ he has not had much to work with....Kilmarnock are a selling club so any decent players are very quickly sold. Against Celtic the other night we had 7 starters who had come through the youth ranks.

Gary Holt (who was in my class at school by the way!) I'd an absolute hero to the killie fans, and is well-known to be a huge fan of the club (indeed he got the killie badge tattooed on his calf after we won the. Scottish cup in 1997!).

It makes some sense to me when looked at logically...appointing him would be a masterstroke by the chairman as it would easily be the most popular thing he has ever done. The problem for Holt is that there is no money and the current side is bad (I mean, really really bad) so the job would be incredibly difficult.

I will start a thread linking to this rumour CB and see if there is anybody in the know....

No - we are all still too busy going the current manager pelters after Monday evenings shocking no-show against the green half of the ugly sisters!

But there isn't a single post mentioning anything about it- and some of these guys on there are very much connected to the club and on the know so I would have to doubt there's anything in it CanaryBoy

He did say when he arrived he left because of Adams. Wouldn't be surprised to see him return to management now.

Have heard from a couple of old mates that the rumour doing the rounds is Holt to Killie in the Summer - but that is just one of dozens of rumours, all of which seem to share the same common denominator - our useless current manager leaving at the end of his contract (we can't afford to pay him off, a bit like with McCoist) and any one of 15 names being bandied about as possible replacements.

I personally still can't see it unless the equally useless chairman leaves - just can't see GH working for him. But I have been wrong many times before!
