Full-on hypothetical here.....

How many of you think Gary Neville would make a good manager, and do you think we could attract him (not necessarily right now)?

He has stated in the past (sometime last season I think) that he would like to get into management, but there are only two teams he would consider managing - to which I inferred Man U and England.

If and when he does make the move into management, he would obviously give his right fruit to be offered the Man U job - but this is unlikely, at least as his first role - so what about Norwich?  

We have no real 'grudge' with United à la LIverpool, Leeds or Man City and, personally, I think we would offer a good stepping-stone (in a non forelock-tugging, little old Norwich way).  I think he has the makings of a good manager - his tactical analysis always seems pretty good and with what he has achieved as a player I think he could command the respect of the dressing room.

With all the (rightful) talk about Adams' future it got me thinking about the managerial merry-go-round and the names for possible replacements that keep getting mentioned,

So, what do you think?

I think at some point he'll be an excellent manager, but I don't think it'll be with us.

This is a good point - but everyone has to start somewhere.

I would have liked Adams to have left the club on good terms in the summer and cut his teeth somewhere else - League 1 or 2, Scotland or even Segunda División - and then maybe come back in a few years, all-conquering and messianic.

Why do I think Neville would be different to Adams regarding lack of experience?  Simply because I believe his tactical awareness is better.  This would compensate for the lack of experience.

Management is so much more than just tactical awareness. Man management plays a massive part in managing a football team.

He will probably make a very good manager one day, however we've already given Adams, Gunn, and Grant their first manager jobs in football, and look how those have gone.

I like Gary Neville's work a lot, but he seems a Manc through and through, and I would see it unlikely that he would move at this stage of his life, it could be a few more years yet.

Some people think an inexperienced man like Neville would be great, others think an FA Youth winning Coach isn't good enough to manage our side, and yet others think Swansea have pulled a masterstroke in appointing the totally inexperienced Garry Monk as their manager.

The club appointed Neil Adams despite his lack of any managerial experience, and we're talking about appointing a new manager.

So I would really like the new manager to have some managerial experience.
