  BBC Wiltshire understands Swindon's Louis Thompson is being sold to Norwich but will be loaned back to Town for the rest of the season. The transfer fee is understood to be £600,000 rising to £1.3m.
  
  We're also expecting Tottenham striker Jon Obika to join the Robins for around £200,000.

It is being reported in the South West that Louis Thompson is signing for us today from Swindon and will be immediately loaned back to them for the rest of the season.  600K rising to 1.3M is suggested. Central midfielder 19 years old - brother plays for Swindon too. Only rumours at the moment. (oops just saw other post re this - sorry!)

Swindon fans really rate him. Gist of comments on their forum is "Gutting to lose him but rather sell now and get a decent fee than lose him at tribunal next summer." Which is fair enough, that's a decent chunk of money to them. Apparently he's a holding midfielder. 

This deal seems to suit all parties. If he was leaving them next summer anyway then they get a decent fee, and keep him for the year anyway, we secure the player and don't have to worry he gets poached by a bigger club next summer, and he gets to sign for the best club in the world. Win-win-win situation

Seems like Neil is building a squad for the future.

Shows a remarkable amount of ambition from the board if they are prepared to outlay this, not inconsiderable amount of money, on a player who we won't even get to see this year. 

It's also a win win scenario. We get a player with potential before other clubs and we get somewhere for him to continue to develop that he is comfortable at and virtually guaranteed game time.

This is the sort of thing we should be doing, building for the future, not spending every penny on the here and now as you can only ever tread water for so long.

The outlay for us presumably involves no wages being paid by us. If that is the case then we are making them an interest-free loan of £600k, to be topped up when he actually becomes available for us. At that moment he will have cost something like what we paid for the Scots lad.

The point I am struggling to make is that so long as everything works out well, for the next twelve months  the cost is the loss of interest on our £600k, i.e. perhaps £25,000. The greater (full) cost arises when he eventually becomes our player. Such a sum seems well worth paying to "reserve" a player we could find difficult to supply with enough games if he came immediately.

Thompson now confirmed now by Norwich City on Twitter, and that he will be loaned back to Swindon for the rest of the season. Swindon fans seem to be gutted about this so it looks promising.

Paddy Davitt said that we're paying 600k earlier today, so sounds like a very good deal.

One of my best mates is a Swindon season ticket holder and he messaged me tonight with the following:

"Gutted to lose him, one of the best prospects I've seen come through Swindon in 15+ years. Good motor, technically good and has a shot on him as well. Sure he'll fit in with you guys because he's top quality on the ball, glad to have him back this year though"

Signing two good midfield prospects for a rumoured combined fee of £1.6m does make me feel a lot better about seeing Adeyemi go to Cardiff for £1m.

Spoke to my mate who works with his dad. Apparently his dad had to drive him down to Norwich on deadline day to sign! He's very happy to join, and says Norwich are a really good club to deal with (despite the stingy sods not laying on a bit of transport for him)!

Apparently we're looking at his brother too, he's a right back. Maybe we're looking at a team full of brothers!

I'm now going to be the most irritating mate in the world to my friend if Louis becomes a good player for us!
