Nathan Redmond's contract

We've heard a lot about our need for a quality centre back and disappointment that we didn't bring a new striker in so we could ship one or two out, but the biggest signing we could possibly make as a club now is arguably neither of those players but Nathan Redmond on a new deal?

His contract expires in summer 2017, so when we get to the end of this season it will probably come down to sign him up or cash in? 

Its not a great situation is it, on one hand we need to do well in the league to keep him, on the other hand the better he does on the pitch the more likely we are to achieve a respectable position, but the more likely he'll attract interest from an Arsenal/Spurs/Liverpool type club who lets me frank, he wouldn't be turning down.

I guess this is a situation which won't be resolved until towards the end of this season as presumably being able to offer him a sufficient financial package is dependent on us staying up, and there is no way he'd be willing to return to the second tier again... 

Does anybody else here have a worry about a potential Raheem Sterling type situation? 

I'm sure we all want us to tie him down to a 4 year deal, but if that doesn't happen this summer, how much cash would soften the blow? He is surely worth at least £15m, and in this market potentially £20m+? 

If he can win an England cap or two this season and continue to score goals, who knows, £30m?

Current value I'd put in the region of 15-20 mil (although I wouldn't sell for this), given a good season and potential call-ups to the full England squad and I'd expect a minimum of 25mil possibly rising to 30+ depending on who is actually interested (sides like Man City, Chelsea et al will often pay over the odds to get their players).

If we get to the end of the season and he doesn't sign a new deal we haven't got much choice but to sell? 

We could keep for another season and leave it to a tribunal as he is under 24, but those tribunals usually award well below the market value.

If we can get £30m for him then that's a new city stand paid for, so lets hope he makes the Euro 2016 squad and is player of the tournament or something!

That's quite an interesting proposition actually, if the club received £30m for Redmond and decided to spent the entire receipts on a new city stand, would people say that the club were being unambitious, or is that actually a sign of ambition?

Would fans prefer £30m invested in new talent, say 3 x £10m players, or a new city stand would potentially increase the clubs revenue for decades to come?

without any doubt the majority of city fans would be livid if we sold Redmond and replaced him with a new stand, not to mention the inevitable that we cant just build a new stand due to being unable to relocate the season ticket holders in that stand, due to having too many season ticket holders to begin with, as good as it is we've got such a huge amount of season ticket holders it really has messed us up in developing the ground much further

How much do we think the hotel would cost to purchase and demolish? Perhaps we could do that instead. The issue with that corner is the need to maintain access for an ambulance, but surely easy enough to have an ambulance sized tunnel through the middle.... ambulances aren't that big.

Kevin Reeves was sold to Man City, at that time no better than us, to replace the old River End. There was a certain amount of anger among the fans and the coaching team as to our ambitions. We still had the dreadful old City stand before the fire but some argued the redevelopment of the River End was a catalyst that made the club aware of the fans needs and comforts. Only for fencing to be put up of course.

How necessary is it for the ground to become bigger? Would an extra 4-5K diminish the sales of season tickets if it became easier to get a ticket, albeit proportionately more expensive? Is there any guarantee those seats would be filled every home game?

For the last 11 years, the crowd size has grown from 17-20K to capacity and been maintained and many of those years have been spent in the Championship. So there is a strong argument to increase the capacity even further even if it meant selling a player to pay for it.

I think we have to accept that if the right offer came in for Redmond, then we would sell, particularly if the Murphy's develop further. And we would need to be fair to Redmond as well. But I don't think it would add any value to that sale just buying players which would be hit and miss. But redevelopment would be lasting and probably not a gamble.

But I could be persuaded the other way just as easily.

for me, it would depend on the amount realised from his sale. 

If £30m was received, then i'd be happy to look at investing £10m in a replacement player, and putting £20m towards the new stand. 

If £20m was the figure, then it's not so clear-cut.

I think its up to Redmond, will he want to go ?

If he gets into the England team while hes here, I think he will stay a bit longer, if he dont, then i think he will want to leave

How hes playing now, I think he will soon be in the England team with us.
