Having seen the way both teams season has gone, this game is genuinely hard to predict.

Thing is that if we lose we are not down, and I really believe this will go down to the last game, I really do.

no Bennett, Martin in a CB, Pinto in at RB, Jerome and Wes up front in place of Mbokani and Naismith

Had we played half as well as that against Sunderland we'd be pretty much safe now.

Oh well, a good warm-up tactically for the United game anyway.

played really well today, particularly in the first half, could of easily gone in at half time a couple ahead, always had a feeling us not taking our chances in that half could come back to bite us, and it did, most disappointing part of today is the fact that newcastle won and sunderland got a point, yet we've had the toughest game of the three played really well and have gotten nothing from it, more worrying could be that Newcastle play villa next week while we have man utd, if we lose and newcastle win we'll be all but down i feel

Actually had a bit of something about us going forward with Redmond in the side.

Baffling how many times he's been on the bench.

Didn't expect a win today, but all credit to the boys, they fought well. The make shift back 4 performed well. We had chances, but didn't take them..... I know he didn't play, but maybe Pardew was right about Bamford....... Naismith? so far, sadly, not a good buy....... Am I the only one that doesn't care if Redmond leaves?... Obvious Palace would lose today, after Pardew said that he's desperate for Newcastles survival.....Good effort yellas, more next week please, but with a better outcome

Not long home from the game.

Cracking performance, we deserved something from that.

very solid generally, we were the better team first half with only cech preventing us from going ahead.    not surprisingly arsenal improved second half and wellbecks movement got him a goal.

the team played well but not scoring when on top and then a momentary lapse (the otherwise decent) from martin giving too much room to giroud - he wont enjoy watching the replay of him watching the quality of knock down when he should have been closer and challenging - will be the story of our relegation.

plucky norwich defeat again, but little gain in playing well in defeat;  why cant we swap the performances around between sunderland and arsenal and we would be in a decent position. a very important 10 days now.  same team for united please (even if bennett fit) with the same perfromance;  wins only likely to be good enough now.

ps - midfield triangle of wes/oneil/howson was excellent with wes showing naismith what can be done;  and jerome / redmond worried a very strong defence.   No need to change that at all for next sat and hopefully the first televised win of the season

The only disappointment was brady who defended very well but didnt provide the same dynamic threat that redmond did despite similar pace.

Worried but didn't breach though, with Wes having to come off because he was tired.

The time we have to rely on Wes is coming to an end, should have been upgraded properly this season. A proper number 10 would have made all the difference.

His legs are going, especially if you consider he was probably our most naturally fit player for several years, but he is still more effective than £9.5m Steven Naismith  :(

I think Wes has one more year as a squad player in the league below, but really can't see him getting another year after that for his testimonial, but if I were him I'd try and win plaudits at the Euro's and use the profile to try and win an MLS contract for the next draft. He'd probably get 3 or 4 years out there and the American's would be amazed by him, plus would be nice to see Norwich represented, that's where PL club legends go to retire!

I felt sad after that one, as we certainly deserved something. Personally, for me, whenever Wes plays he does little that is good enough to secure his place in the side, and again I thought this, although he did put a decent shift in without being spectacular. Howson was stand out, as was Redmond, and I also thought Martin did well for first game back. I genuinely believe we have every chance of beating both Manure and Watford, and then having a final day nail biting session.

Martin did alright but the goal came from that major weakness in his game as a centreback.

If Klose had been there that goal wouldn't have happened.

yet Naismith also unable to last a full game while 5 years younger.

Dont disagree with your second paragraph (which applies to 8/9 positions tbh, a decent no 1, 2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10...) but you play the best you have,  wes did more than Naismith.

Naismith hasn't been playing much this year, doubt he's really at full fitness right now.

Which makes it bizarre that we'd sign him, because surely we apply rigorous fitness tests to players before signing as part of the medical, don't they run on a treadmill for ages with all sorts of gadgets plugged to them.

When we signed him for £9.5m and Lavanche was saying that he'd have preferred a younger player I argued that we paid a big premium because he is a player who knows this league inside out and can make an instant impact. But were four months down the line and he still isn't fit enough to make an impact, unless this is as fit as he gets in which case it is a disaster of a transfer.

It now looks like we are just having to hope that after a full pre-season he can be a great player for us next season. Everton fans were laughing that we'd paid so much for Naismith and most were saying that he was bang average, I thought that they were saying that when comparing him relatively with the likes of Mirallas and Barkley and that he'd be above average in our much weaker squad, but so far that assessment looks fairly accurate, he has been bang average.

Sometimes players don't hit it off straight away though, nobody can forget the change in Iwan Roberts in his second season, and Hoolahan struggled in his first season here.
