News from the presser, too soon for Pinto, Jarvis in the squad.

Got to get Jarvis on the pitch at some time. His crossing has been missed. And he is a goal threat. Brady hasn't been on top form with his crossing but of course he is having to run from deeper.

Stoke away would be a tough introduction for any player!     Best news about Jarvis though.  My preferred XI for this one is

                    Rudd

Wisdom   Bennett Bassong  Brady

                 O'Neil   Tettey

      Howson      Wes      Jarvis

                   Jerome

VOO would start ahead of Howson if he defensive work was stronger,  at the mo I still only see him as an impact sub from the bench,  along with Mbokani & Redmond.

Remaining subs?  Ruddy, Olsson, Martin & Dorrans,

I would be tempted to play VOO off the forward instead of Wes. Give them a bit of presence and pace to deal with. Wes is great at what he does but he doesn't offer much of a direct threat.

If we can get 4 points from this game and Saturday's game against Bournemouth then that would be a superb return and would really help to pull us away from the bottom 3 even further, and I don't think it's by any means impossible. A draw here wouldn't be a bad result at all but if we are properly on it then there's certainly a chance we could pick up the 3 points. I have a lot of time for Stoke though, a very good side with some quality attacking players and it would be a great achievement if we managed to get our 3rd clean sheet in a row.

Team I'd go with:

Rudd
Wisdom Bennett Bassong Olsson
Howson O'Neil Tettey Brady
Hoolahan
Mbokani
Subs: Ruddy, Martin, Mulumbu, Odjidja, Jarvis, Redmond, Jerome.

I imagine that is the team we'll see, except probably Martin preferred to Wisdom at right back, and possibly Redmond/Jarvis in ahead of Olsson and then Brady at left back. Redmond's form though hasn't really been good enough of late to warrant a start and I think he'd be more effective used off the bench.

If we play how we did against Manchester United then we could certainly pick something up, it will be difficult though. Never like predicting us to win so gonna say we'll lose 2-1.

Hughes has said that the Stoke team is far better now than when they played earlier in the season.

That mind set could well go in our favor because Stoke will be expecting to win by a margin & will be attack minded leaving themselves open to counterattack.

I've no doubt AN will have set up our tactics to diffuse the threats which Stoke have.

Could be interesting result although we probably will have minimal possession and be defending for much of the game.

Unfortunately I can't see us winning this one, maybe we can nab a cheeky draw, fingers crossed!

Yes  they are a different side with Shawcross back and Shaqiri playing well. Lets not underestimate them but at the same time understand that anybody can beat anybody and there are no shocks any more.

But a point is what we start with so some composure in midfield could see us leave with the same amount.

Looking at tonights fixtures, a win could certainly distance ourselves from the bottom three but put us very much closer to teams who have been considered doing well. Watford, Everton and even Stoke themselves have had glowing praise from many quarters but we could be above or much closer to them should we win and they don't.

I think that is a massive incentive for the management team and the players to get it right tonight. If indeed Saturdays line up and performance was with tonights match in mind then make it worthwhile.

With Stoke's current form I would be very happy with draw. We have had a good run  too and if our defence can cope with their more talented players, we should be on defensive department. I think we continue with that 4 3 2 1 where Brady keeps the width and Hoolahan + Redmond link up our midfield with lone striker. I would start with Jerome today just because of his work rate. Mbokani makes more impact when he comes from the bench.

If Jarvis is fully fit he could start in place of Hoolahan just to give us a bit more speed. 3 man midfield probably consist Tettey, O'Neil and Howson.

I personally would start with 4 attacking players and sacrifice Howson for Olsson, but I understand AN's point for playing Brady as left back and getting one more body to hide those passing lines front of our CB's. But then again Johnson is quite good getting forward, but not so good against speedy wingers so getting two wide players on our left side could be better idea so as I said I either would play pure 4 - 3 - 3 with Jarvis on left or 4-2-3-1 with Brady - Hoolahan - Redmond/Jarvis behind the striker. Third option would be ofc drop Redmond and let Howson take that false wide midfielder role by helping Martin for defence, but playing more middle when we attack. That would leave space either Jarvis or or Olsson to double our wide players on left where most of their build up play come from.

Hopefuly we can get at least something to bring home as even 1 point would mean that Bournemouth can't get front of us without crushing us at their home during the weekend. Quite important games these two as we can easily drop bag in the bottom three and get the pressure if we leave them without points and face Liverpool, Spurs, Leicester(away),Chelsea and West Ham in next 6, with Aston Villa being only "easier game" and West Ham only other where we wait at least some points.

We could get points from any of those games, you just can't tell this season

Martin preferred to Wisdom, Brady preferred to Olson.

Vadis in, Jarvis & redders on the bench

Odjidja is big surprise for me. He was energetic when subbed on, but didn't think him to start. Unchanged otherwise, we will play very central today. Hard to see neither VOO nor Hoolahan stay too wide and can't wait too much from Martin.

@FenwayFrank: Yeah ofc every game is possible, but still we shouldn't except to win teams with so much bigger budgets. Need them to play bad and us to play very good or just pure luck to beat them. Draws are always possible outcomes even when we dont have good day, but still shouldn't wait anything. Ruins surprise when we get three points from those ;)

15 minutes in and we're playing well, Rudd has had one good save to make but other than that we've been on top and looking like the home side with Stoke looking to counter with pace, lets keep it going

O'Neil straight red card after half an hour, he's just flown in with the ball on the half way line and going out for a throw, crazy!!! just when I thought we were doing well, going to be a long hour now

What the heck was he thinking there?.. Now I'm double  happy if we get anything out of this..

I understand that he lives from his tough attitude and probably didn't mean it to become two legged scissors behind just got his tackle horrible wrong, but that situation didn't even need the tackle.. Unbelievable from professional player who I tought has experience and smart for not to do anything like that.

Have to say that ref begged for something like this with his "no whistling line". I would have given three yellows before that straight red.
