Pukki to Galatasaray and Webber to Southampton?

I personally don't think there is anything in either of these stories.

But, of course, you never know....

The Pukki one is the least likely, but a lot depends on where we are, as a club, come January. There could be more than him glancing at the exit door if it all has gone to shit by then.

I really hope you're right morty, we've endured the transition and now it's starting to bear fruit...

Webber's wife just got promoted though so hopefully there is something of a tie there and I think Pukki would be mad to leave us in Jan if we are well in the promotion mix.

I would like to hope that we are paying Webber well, and that he would be keen to see the project through. It would look infinitely better on his CV if he were to get us promoted, than it would look if he jumped ship just for cash, to a stagnating Premiership club.

Yeah, agree on Pukki. He seems to be liking it here, and he isn't quite at that age where he needs to take a last big payday.

For me, Farke. As Webber will have a list of half a dozen replacements already drawn up.

Someone with the skillset of Webber would be hard to replace.

Now I think about this, and I know its just a rumour, but if Webber did go to Southampton his perceived level of intelligence would automatically fall in my eyes. Hear me out....

At Southampton if he turns that around and takes them back to 8th or whatever, and brings through a couple of Luke Shaw's, what credit is he actually going to get for that?

Southampton are just perceived as underachieving and they have a reputation as having a world class academy already of the crop they brought through.

"Oh look, that Webber has done a good job running Southampton".

As opposed to taking Norwich to 8th.... and Jamal Lewis, Max Aarons etc building careers like Oxlade-Chamberlain and Luke Shaw, and Webber taking a fair bit of the credit for it.

If its legacy that Webber wants he can achieve more here where he had a half blank canvas, instead of just touching up as a bit of flaking paint on Southampton's finished landscape.

We're only one promotion away from being a similar size club in the same league with the same academy status :rolleyes:

that's all true and I wouldn't want him to go, but if someone offered me to do the same job but somewhere else in the country for probably 2x or more my salary I'd be more than tempted, it's his career at the end of the day and money talks

Yes and no. His wife works at the club, and I believe thats the first time they have worked in the same place, so they are probably enjoying that. And I would like to hope we are paying him pretty well too.

Webber doubling his salary but his wife losing hers would presumably not leave them much better off....

Plus presumably his salary would double if he took us up, and halve if he took Southampton down? They have 1 win in 12.... and Stuart Webber needed a dud year at Huddersfield and a dud year at Norwich...

.... what's he going to do exactly, sack Mark Hughes and appoint a German who will come could somewhere in the middle of next season with Southampton at 14th in the Championship?

Also, its potentially a very long career for him in football if he plays his cards right.... and potentially a very short one if he messes up, so I'm not sure doubling his salary for a 2 year contract at Southampton is necessarily what a 34 year old should be thinking about with his team at 1st in the Championship with half a dozen Premier League quality players in it and a category A academy.

To leave in this position after bailing on Huddersfield would be madness.

I think if Webber did leave the most sensible course of action would be to allow Farke to appoint his own sporting director. That may sound ludicrous in normal circumstances, but Farke was pretty much manager AND sporting director at his first job, and apparently wanted to be a sporting director initially.

He'd do a better job than Ed Balls at choosing somebody, who'd probably give Neil Doncaster his job back or something :rolleyes:

And I don't see how we could possibly allow Mrs Webber to keep her job in those circumstances, it would be a clear case of a possible vested interest if he had somebody on the inside. E.g. if Webber fancied taking Farke, Leitner and Jamal Lewis with him, or whatever.

Its actually slightly worrying that we have Farke sitting there with 7 months left on his deal, and the man who decides if he gets a new one or not could potentially move to a rival. I'll breathe a heavy sigh of relief when a new contract for Farke is announced.

Maybe new contracts for Farke and Cantwell are being kept secret until January in case we have a disappointing transfer window and need to counter our failure to land anybody significant with some good news?
