How about stashing away some dosh against the risk of being relegated some day so that we're not just relying on parachute payments if that happens ?

Given that last time we were in the Prem, a fair bit of the money was wasted, and with the numbers being talked about we should be able to put away £5m/season surely ?

It's a bit like North Sea oil - it always narks me when I read about Norway having this massive investment fund they've built up since the 70s from their half of the North Sea and I think =- where's the UK equivalent ?  Of course we've just spent every penny

Thats a double edged sword though, stashing a "war chest" Think of the angst as we are relegated and fans find out that we had 5 or 10 million that we could have spent on staying up.

Sadly you'd probably be right Morty.  It's a bit like Arsenal fans getting riled when for years they weren't spending any money, but were financially solid.

I remember when we went up to the Prem last time, fans talking about the borrowing levels of some Prem clubs (Bolton are the example that comes to mind, cited then has having £50m debts or something like that) as being what we had to compete with.  People made it sound like having massive debts was a good thing for them.  Of course for us, being debt-free now, we're not paying out any interest.

Personally I'd prefer we try to spend sensibly next season and get in hungry players, rather than people like Elmander or Fer who'd never consider a club like Norwich if it weren't for the money.  All too often they have an attitude that they're too good for the club and we should be glad to even have them.  Maybe I'm being unfair to those two, it's more of a problem at QPR I'm concerned with, but we had it to an extent when we got relegated I think.

Putting it in proportion I've just read the average turnover for a Champ club in 2013/14 was around £20m from all sources. Given that a Prem club will normally get more from ticket sales etc the £80m tv money means our turnover should be getting on for £100m.

The £80m is the minimum (it comprises various elements, not just TV money, I think.)

Add onto that so-called 'performance money' ie. the higher in the league a club finishes the more it gets. I believe that it is £800, 000 per place.

The team finishing 18th. therefore gets £80, 800, 000, and so on.

We might also be lucky and get more live tv exposure, to add to the minimum.

We might have a cup run.

Yep. £100m is realistic, but perhaps a minimum, I feel.

Oh! And a share from the parachute money we didn't need, much to the annoyance of TWTD.("Should be shared out to the lower leagues." ... "Not fair. Blah, blah, blah")

This was the season before last. It's worse now.

We got out just in time.

Sure we must not get too big for our boots, but we are entitled to make hay while the sun shines, whilst saving up for that rainy day.
