The Kyle Lafferty Thread

Cheers for the report Gerry.

I too struggle to get my head round the disparity between Kyle's performances at club and international level.

Though I believe the NI manager said that he was effectively building the team around him, so thats likely the difference.

Laffs has struggled for form for NI in the past, so we could see more of him for City in the future. He certainly puts a shift in!

Good to see Grabban get an excellent goal against Huddersfield and a goal for Lafferty might unleash his season.

Fair play to him for admitting that he hasn't been particularly good this season, however it's not entirely his fault. He's never been given an opportunity to play up front for us, which is the position he does so well in when playing for Northern Ireland. Perhaps if he had been given that chance then he could've shown us the same sort of form he shows for Ireland. However he hasn't really impressed for us even if he hasn't been played in his natural position, and I can't see him playing in a Norwich shirt again to be honest.

His signing did seem to be a bit of a gamble - oh well, they cant all come off

OK I will admit I have not been paying full attention, but what is the situation with Lafferty.

Has he featured in any of the pre season games, did he go to training camp, is he even training with us at all?

Been out with a knee injury for pretty much all of pre-season, but I simply don't see a future for him here.

Think he'll be gone (probably another loan) before the season starts.

Does anyone think Lafferty is worth keeping around as a plan B?

Main criticism of Norwich in recent seasons has been the lack of a Plan B. We face a very different challenge this season to last, and whilst he is not a target man, he does offer a different type of threat to our other strikers.

Might he be a useful option to turn to from the bench if we need a goal or an outlet?

We've never really seen what he can do in his central striking position. In games where we are likely to be on the backfoot and need a foothold in games, Lafferty might be a useful option to have. not they type of striker we needed last season, but what about this one?

He's done very well at international level.

I'd rather him than Ricky but I don't think Neil rates him/his attitude.

AN did not have much of a look at him before deciding to loan him out. So maybe his attitude precedes him.

But AN does seem open to rehabilitating those that have gone out on loan. So maybe he is still in the mix.

No rumours of him leaving for some time. Indeed apart from Redders early on this window has been quite empty of rumours on transfers out.

A bit of an enigma this one!

The fact that the club have stated that they are signing a new striker tells you all you need to know about Lafferty really. He won't be about much longer.

Spent three seasons playing in the same league as him, 2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011.

Meaning he has probably played against him 9+ times.

Plus would have watched him a lot playing in other games for Rangers, particularly the Old Firm Derby, as Alex Neil is a Glaswegian himself and a Celtic fan... so should imagine he knew enough about Lafferty before joining.

Thats why I find Neils position with Hooper strange. He will have witnessed Hooper being the man talked about most in connection with Celtic following Larsson leaving and will have seen him at his best. If he'd have come in and made his team revolve around Hooper I wouldnt have been surprised. I am surprised that having seen Hooper do so well at Celtic he's not a regular starter for him

Neil knows the difference between Celtic playing in Scottish football and Norwich playing in English football. It's very unlikely that we were regularly going to use 2 striker formations thus hooper was never a real option.

Although now we've had more time to prepare it will be interesting to see what happens with him next season. With Mulumbu and Brady added I think an old fashioned 442 might be possible and effective. Could even see us play 352 with wingbacks like Leicester did last year, would allow Hoolahan to play too.

We don't know for certain that Alex Neil is looking to dispose of Gary Hooper.

For all we know its just media talk. Not the first time Hooper has been linked to other clubs, last January Hooper laughed it off as rubbish himself.

The only thing which makes me wonder is the thing that Hooper retweeted. Although he may just not be smart enough to realise what doing so implied.

It implied that Hooper was unhappy with a lack of football, but he could have been retweeting it just because he considered it a simple compliment.

I wouldn't be completely against using him as a squad player, and maybe just giving him a chance in cup games. We never saw him in his natural position last season, so we have no real way of comparing him to the strikers we already have. I'd be amazed though if he's still here by the end of the transfer window.
