What I wonder about is Andrew Surman. With Bournemouth sitting top of the league, cant help but feel 'chumpishness' that we sold him to them when we need someone to play left wing, and also that Callum Wilson chose them ahead of us.

We thought we were losing Surman and Wilson to a 'lesser' club and that Grabban was making a bigger move.

I wonder how those sequences of business are viewed?

I still think selling Surman was a good bit of business, I always had hopes he would show what his real strengths were but I am still none the wiser. It may just be that he suits the Bournemouth system but I cannot see how he would fit in here.

Danny Ayala is the one I question, we could use a centre half at the moment.

Surman was a good player but was neither fish nor fowl. Not fast enough to play as a genuine wide left option and too lightweight to play centre midfield. I think the Championship is his limit personally.

But would he have been better than the square pegs we've played there last season?

I have heard the "nobody on the left" cry for so many years in English football when we all wished Giggs had chosen to play for us instead of never playing for Wales. But on reflection we have had some outstanding left sided players over the years, Huckerby and Bowen were two class players on that side.

But just like not having a good enough spinner to play at test level in the cricket team but pick one anyway, instead of patching up the problem, play to your strengths instead. And the decision to ask BJ to play a different role to overcome this has paid dividends not only for the team but for him as well as people are now recognising his worth instead of constantly saying O'Neill or Tettey should replace him.
