3 overage players compared to Southmaptons 0 overage players and we're being completely outplayed.  Surely players like Hooper should be using these games to impress

You are right in some ways because how many of these lads will be playing first team for us in the future? But they are playing for a future in professional football so I expected more effort.

True but we have an international CB and CL player on the pitch to make up for it. I don't want to appear to be moaning, far from it but this is my first look at U21 and I am disappointed. Lets hope we get to see more of these lads.

Cameron King has looked decent, playing a similar role I expected McGrandles to play, who seems to be playing much deeper. Hooper may as well not have been on the pitch.

But in a game that others think is only being played at half pace. Don't misunderstand me, we are up against a club that has for as long as I can remember, produced some very good youngsters and they have some more here.

Yes, and you would probably be correct, but Southampton have a youth conveyer belt it seems.

He hasn't seen much of the ball, and he looked pretty rusty dealing with what he did see. More about getting 90 minutes under his belt though.

I think anyone watching that would not question why Hooper was not in the squad last Saturday. He doesn't seem to be naturally fit and looked no sharper than he did at Shrewsbury. No longer out than Howson but a lot less fit.

I don't really follow the under 21's, and was playing 6 a side tonight so didn't get a chance to watch the game, but does Bassong usually play for the under 21's? I know he's been training with them, but I didn't realise he was actually playing for them.

He did do pretty well actually, I watched most of the game and he really stood out (as he should do really)

I suspect the ball is firmly in his court.

Seb certainly seemed up for it last night. Guess you can read into that as you wish, he's either getting ready for a loan move or the air has been cleared between him and Adams.

I hope it is the latter as Bassong on form is probably the second best player at the club.

He did look, naturally, calm and composed. The cynic in me says, "no wonder, he's on a few grand a week playing 18 year olds", whereas the optimist in me says "the manager has told him the door is now a revolving one". But the U21 fixtures are normally two weeks apart so his opportunities to impress are narrow.
