Is it a coincidence, I wonder

That our recent fall-off in form,

Where three points have been hard to plunder

And frustration just seems the norm,

Coincides with one Wesley Hoolahan

And his skill to unpick a lock,

Becoming an injured wee Irishman

Unable now to help us rock,

Right from the off, Adams´ intention

Of attacking, expansive play,

To be a successful invention

Needed a kingpin on the day,

And despite one or two shortcomings

He still is unique in our squad,

For turning the muttering hummings

Into cheers, with a touch from God,

Others have qualities, ´tis true

But none can do quite what he does,

His presence does help turn our crew

So players and fans get a buzz,

And though one man maketh not one team

Unless you´re Ronaldo, of course,

The sooner he´s back up to full steam

Agreed. He was in the most inept 45 minutes of football I've seen this season in the first half against Blackpool.  Plenty of possession, but no shots, no spark and we improved considerably the moment he went off.

Don´t dispute that when he´s used incorrectly, he´s more than anonymous, but used in the right way, in the right position, we look livelier with him, and anyway just having him back fit, would at least give us that option.

It´s not the ´how´ that´s important

When getting one´s message across,

This way at least gets people´s notice

To me, matters more in the long run

I said at the start of the season, i said whilst he was being criticised as well that he is a massive player for us in this division.

People can criticise him based on lack of goals or direct assists or whatever but 99% of the time I see him benefitting our play rather than hindering it. Even if it's just for the linking up he offers which no matter what anyone tells me - our midfield majorly struggles to do this without him. Even Howson doesn't offer what we need in that sense, even though he's a very good player.

Well its hard to argue with a point that scans so well...  Talk of Wes makes me also wonder about one Connor McGrandles. Id forgotten we'd signed this chap, is there a reason we havent seen anything of him? Seeing as we've had other youth grace the team, how far behind them can McGrandles be? Or is he injured?

Someone suggested a while back (and I'll admit it was a bit premature) that he might be the new Jacob Butterfield. As time goes on that particular concern does begin to bite.

Anyone know anything about him?

On the whole I thought Wes started the season well, particularly when he was played behind the striker he should be played. However, I don't think that our turn in fortunes lies with him being injured. If you look at the goals we've conceded throughout this poor run, they're all so easily avoidable if we'd have just defended with a little bit more quality. Therefore I don't think that the absence of Hoolahan has made too much of a difference.

I don't think that Wes is the answer to all of our problems, his best days are behind him and our poor form started before he got his injury. But it would be nice to have him available, he does give the opposition plenty to think about when having a decent game and did link up well with Lafferty earlier in the season.

McGrandles did come with rave reviews
