Anyone Phelan Any Better ?

With Mr. Phelan due any time now

And soon to make his Colney coaching bow,

It would be nice if this could engineer

A winning instinct which would grow and grow

Because that knack, once lost, is hard to find

And good play, ultimately undermined,

As two steps back for every one forward

Makes life in this league much more of a grind

He comes with an immaculate CV

Premier League quality all there to see,

Which does at least show intent and desire

To improve our standing, if you ask me

For those who wanted an experienced head

With knowledge too, of what needs to be said,

We couldn´t have found any better man

If only Neil is willing to be led

For altercations pitch-side there have been

As many fans apparently have seen,

Which may have just caused the Robson dismissal

Match days we need unity ´mongst the team

But can they compliment each others work

Then this move won´t seem like just a knee-jerk,

And it could really quite revitalise

Goodness knows, but I can see only positives from this appointment as long as Phelan, who is easily the most experienced of the three, can happily function as Adams number 2/3, which after all is a long way from the same, as acting as number 2 to Sir A. Also I hope that Adams can happily listen to, and accept, any advice which Phelan chucks his way, because I don´t think Phelan is the sort who won´t say what he thinks, if he thinks it needs to be said.

This is the crux of the matter.   Will Adams take the advice he is given, or will Holt - the no 2 - be undermined by the authority of an ex-ManU assistant manager giving his highly prized advice?  The dynamics of the situation are fraught with difficulty and will imo only lead one way - Phelan likely to end up as manager, sooner or later.   Might as well be sooner if his voice is going to be the most authorative.

That scenario will obviously always be looming over the Horizon LD, and I´ll be intrigued to see just how Adams tackles it, because it´s unrealistic to suppose that he can´t see the wood for the trees.

No, feel no different. We will not improve with Adams on charge. He can't win TBH. If we do well if will be Phelans influence. But the benefits of this scenario are obvious so must will be happy. If we continue to be poor he will be sacked.

We already know who are next manager will be though. Good old Norwich way!

Have to say Surgeryman, I listened to the full press conference where Phelan was introduced, and experience, knowledge, drive, and inspiration all oozed out of the man, and I´m afraid to say that Adams rather palled into insignificance beside him. Certainly if I´d been a player listening to that, I know which of the two would have made the biggest impression on me, and which of the two I´d have had the most respect for.

I just hope this doesn´t end badly for Adams, because like Gunn he doesn´t really deserve to be disgraced.

I felt great after the announcement and now am almost back to where I was, not sure why that is........oh hang on a minute.....I know, its because I have no belief in Neil Adams unfortunately, zero, zilch, nil, no,no no.   Its a bit like going to the dentist with a toothache, having a temporary filling, feeling great for a few days, then biting on a boiled sweet, the filling comes out and you need to go back for a permanent filling to feel good long term.........................my tablets have just kicked in....Nurse!!

IMO, both Phelan and Adams are professionals and will find a way to make this work. His experience is like that of Joe Royle, but it's better to have it within the coaching team on a day by day basis. Hopefully, Phelan will be just what we need right now and in the future.

So long as there is no major personality clash, then I would expect an improvement if only because Phelan was a defender himself. We don't know whether the coaching team had such problems before Robson left, and whether that was the reason for his going.

I am not sure how much he is competition for Adams's job, and whether Phelan really wants to be a manager, but if he makes a success of the new post I think it likely that other clubs will be after him for one post or another.

He has walked into  a tough job, with strikers not striking and defenders slow and prone to lose concentration, but I hope that the coaching team manages to get them to perform much better than recently. I wish him luck!

He actually played as both CM and RB Fenway.

He played CM mostly in his City career, but I can remember him playing RB as well. Good range in the management team now.
