Considering football clubs have media spokespeople etc, Im surprised it isnt common policy that footballers are banned from social media. i know that sounds draconian, but look how vulnerable it makes them to anyone with an agenda, and there are plenty of them. it just invites trouble. Im surprised the clubs dont crack down on it. I mean look at the controversy theis could cause, whether its genuine foolishness or a stitch-up. There is now an issue where there was no issue before, fans divided, team-mates and management influenced. All in the public domain. Very silly

Assuming it's not being done already (or widely used, seeing as how gaffes are still very common), there's a serious opportunity here for someone in the media world to start a consulting firm that deals in training just athletes/performers in the proper/safe use of social media.  But as far as a club's own media people go, in my opinion their position doesn't make them experts, especially considering this is still such a new medium.  You've got some early adopters out there, to be sure, but mores are moving much faster than many can adapt.  I have worked both sides of the media and I don't always agree with how the university where I work handles the internet and social media, because I think their strategies are about five to eight years behind the curve.

Perhaps one solution would be to take the 'live' element out of things. If anyone ever used to watch Big Brother (it was interesting in the early days), when they broadcast 'live' it would be a few minutes behind time, which gave Channel 4 the chance to censor the audio if someone said something offensive.

Maybe footballers should be allowed to use social media, but be tied into some kind of vetting service, so it doesnt rely on the judgement of the player in question.

You know, like when Rooney has to make an eloquent public statement which has clearly been written for him.

Clubs obviously couldnt run this, but the clubs could obligate their players to be signed up to a start-up service. One for Dragons Den perhaps!

Comapny could be called '*Kn*b Filter' or 'Pratwatch' or something...

Wheres the fun in that!? Its mainly the daftness that makes social media interesting!

The most important thing that he should learn from this is choose your friends carefully. Because it looks like one of them on snapchat decided to go public, and this is clearly something that was intended just to be shared with mates.

Nooo. No idea. But was asking my lad about this, and if you send a snap, and someone screenshots it, you know about it. So Jacob should be able to track them down, and hopefully remove them, at the very least.

Like I said, this was clearly meant to be a joke amongst close friends.

Seems strange terminating his loan, when he's been a crucial player for them since he's signed. If a perminant player did that you wouldn't instantly sell him.

Hopefully we can loan him out elsewhere where he can play regularly. Seemed to be developing down there.

I suspect it was a joint decision between the two clubs. Looking at the reaction of some of the Blackpool fans I doubt they would have been particularly forgiving, which would have done Jacob no good, which is the most important thing.
