What do you mean what was his record like this season? Don't mean to sound rude, but our league position says it all doesn't it? We're 7th in the league table and out of both cups.

10 wins, 7 draws, 7 defeats. 

But only 3 wins in the last 15 league games.

Ah so that's why he went. You know the club better than I,  Who would you like as a replacement? It an awkward time with the window just opening. Little time for whoever that is to evaluate the squad. We were in the same positition with Mel last year

I and many others felt Hughton needed to be fired last season before January (November ideally) because the new man would need time to assess his squad, identify where weaknesses were and identify signings. Bring someone in later than that and they either miss the window or they make rushed panic-buys with it.

The club brought Phelan in at just the correct moment for him to be able to use the transfer window wisely.

For that reason Phelan is my choice for the rest of the season, with his future beyond this judged on his performance. For me there can be no other sensible choice at this point in the season

Do you use the Head Coach/Director of Football Model like us, or The Traditional manager approach?

Yeh I feel sorry for Rob Kelly. But, Downing and Kiely were Hodgson appointment and had grown very stale. This year we have a run-in of death close to what you had last year. Hence Pulis and the shake up

Agree with this, especially having seen the other names being put forward to become our manager.

Having slept on it, the one big mistake Adams was making was protecting the players after poor performances in interviews, because they didn't deserve it on those occasions. Scrap 'the players are hurting' malarkey if the reason they're hurting is because they didn't turn up.

I remember in Redknapp's early times at QPR that he commented that he'd had players knocking on his door arguing why they should be playing and how they'd just illustrated why they really shouldn't be playing it was damning, and some of those players finished up leaving and he got in some others that had the spirit to be more committed. Sometimes a reality check makes the difference.

I agree with that POJ, but personally I don't like criticisms of players in public. Lambert and Hughton seldom did it. We don't know what Adams said behind closed doors. Hard to say really.

Players and managers have a symbiotic relationship. One can't produce the best results without the other. Once the players cross the white line the manager is reliant on them, but equally they have to be given belief in their ability and the system to be played by the manager. Its naively simplistic to try to isolate the players or the manager when apportioning blame as ultimately the responsibility has to be shared.

I think it may depend on the manager himself. Brian Clough wouldn't hesitate to blast his players in public. Ferguson's outbursts only became public through social media or biographies.

Lambert did indeed protect his players and like any other manager in a company may well have lambasted them to his immediate employers. Hughton, I fear, did now again, almost sublimely, criticise the players without you feeling he was passing the buck.

Adams, of course, because of the way his appointment was greeted in many quarters, needed support from his players first and foremost so I guess he was reluctant to apportion any blame, in public, on anyone at all. "Not good enough" isn't really what we wanted to hear.
