Wow, just visited this site for the first time today to discover this news.

Huge surprise, honestly thought he'd be here for the rest of season.

But I'm going to refrain from calling it "good news", because my first thought is that he could be resigning because he's being forced into player sales? Food for thought.

Agreed eatonparkboy

Maybe it is the best squad but its a squad where large chunks of it were bought to play Hughton ball. I don't think its a coincidence that our defensive players seem unable to concentrate for 90 mins in a team that is spending most of its time attacking rather than being the defence in a game of attack vs defence.

Imo Adam's biggest failing was in the transfer market, we didn't need something old, something new, something borrowed for our cbs, we needed one proven Championship one in his prime. We didn't need to let go of 3 creative midfield players and not replace them with like. Its hard to blame him that much for that as it was his first transfer window as a manager, and at a club that still does not have a manager-independant scouting setup.
Some fair points DM, especially about the CBs (thus the Bassong question?). Adams did succeed in bringing Wes back into the team and bringing in Odjidja-Ofoe, who might have made a big difference had the injuries not intervened. Also, signing Jerome was an inspiration, IMO, and Grabban and Lafferty have done better than RvW and Elmander last year.

All that confirmed and NA will return to the club in a new capacity in July. Does that mean Phelan has the job?
Glad that he will be remaining at the club, stick him in charge of the youth system (all of it).

I really hope he goes on to be a really successful manager just to rub some people's noses in it for constantly sniping.
He's returning to our club in July in a new role, so that won't happen?

A manager is judged on results, and our results haven't been good enough, the league table shows us that. Adams has been getting stick because we've been losing too many games and are sitting outside of the top 6, really that simple in my opinion.

Holy *bleep*, did not expect that.

Respect and thanks to Neil, he did the best he could. The choice of a replacement will be a real statement of intent from the board, I think I'd prefer Uwe Rosler.

I cant believe anyone believes that given time he would have turned things round, regardless of the stats.......there is only one stat you need to look at and that is the number of points gained to date...and that one just is not good enough.
The point is that manager's and coaches only have a limited amount of control over what happens *on matchday*. All the manager can do is set the team up in a way that creates as many chances for our players, and limits them for our opponents, after that its up to the players. If you look at the manner in which we've played in games we should have got more points, I don't see how you can say the tactics were to blame.

He is certainly responsible for drastically limiting our options tactically by leaving us short of wide players, which was fully within his control when he decided to sell two wide players (Snodgrass & Pilkington), sell another player who can do a job out wide (Surman), and loan out two other wide players (Bennett and Jacob Murphy), whilst signing no wide players apart from Lafferty, who fans almost universally seem to be believe should in fact be played through the middle, where he isn't going to get any games due to not being as good as Hooper or Jerome.

His biggest failure in my honest opinion has been player recruitment. Some bizarre decision making there, particularly the decision to sign three reserve centre backs who he didn't ever want to play (and not realising that the best of the three was half decent until almost half way through the season).

I'm also really disappointed that the man who led our kids to the FA Youth Cup success hasn't given a few opportunities to the various talented kids that we have. What has happened to Jamar Loza? When Grabban first hit that run of really bad form, when Hooper wasn't ready for 90 minutes, I was wondering why we couldn't have seen 15 to 20 minutes from him. He was good enough to give Arsenal a fright!

BUT, I like the guy, his resignation is damage limitation, and I'm glad that he has taken it upon himself to avoid being remembered as a Peter Grant and has learnt from Bryan Gunn's mistake. We'll benefit from keeping Adams at the club, hopefully in charge of the youth system, and he'll benefit from remaining employable. This is the best outcome for all concerned.

I too question whether this is actually a resignation or whether he was persuaded to resign with dignity. Love the guy to bits, a true NCFC supporter, but I was always dubious about his appointment. I'm really glad that he will remain within the club and that a Gunn like situation has been avoided. I offer him my thanks for trying his best and wish him luck.

As to the future, I can't see anyone but Phelan getting the job....although Warnock and Delia do seem awfully close!

We all know Phelan will get the job, but imo we should be thinking long term and go for Karl Robinson.

I've always liked Warnock Moosheep but it is a few years too late for him, he would have not intention at all of taking a job for 3 or 4 years and I don't think we should go for a short term solution. I'd rather Phelan than him.

I still find it amazing that so many people think that it's all about the manager. Would Ferguson or Mourinho been great managers had they managed Stoke or WBA? I very much doubt it.

Probably told to resign and take a lesser job at club or otherwise be fired and in reality not work again in football in a

senior capacity.

The board now have to show some ambition.

If their scour Europe and appoint Phelan 2 weeks later we are unlikely to go up.

If Mceunuch goes back to Mcnasty he could go out and get the best man for the job from another club.

Eddie Howe before Saturday would be good !!!!

We didn't need him to be a great manager, he had one of the best squads in the league and presumably one of the highest playing budgets, we just needed him to meet expectations which he wasn't doing.

Any new manager doesn't need to be a great manager either, he just needs to get us back into the top 6 and keep us there for the rest of the season.

N.A has more guts than those on the field on Saturday, the whole playing squad should hold their heads in shame, they have got the ability to go out on match days and do the business. We needed a leader on the pitch to organise the team and that has been missing since Holtie left. N.A. done the honorary thing when he realised that he was not the man for the job let's hope the board take a long hard look at themselves because there are questions that the board must answer about themselves they are just as much to blame.

Agreed. It is collective responsibility but how many players are responsible for their manager getting the sack? If a player plays badly but just doesn't play but still receives his wages. A manager and probably his trusted back room staff, just like WBA today, have to go. Then half the players have the nerve to say they weren't listened to or didn't have a shoulder to cry on but will be crawling round the new guy as soon as he arrives.

But there again, all managers know that and are quick to jump into each others jobs.

As an measure of modern football, Barcelona, hailed as the greatest club side three short years ago and playing the ultimate in football have now hit the panic button while only 4 points of the top of La Liga and still in the CL. Zubizaretta has been sacked and Puyol evidently resigned from their management team, Not a great deal of stability, from a club that should be admired, since Guadiola left.

And we think NCFC is a minefield.

Yellow Fever has said that he hopes players won't be leaving. Sorry to disagree, but the garbage that was losing last year, is the same garbage losing this year and showing their total disrespect and lack of interest towards NCFC,the fans and the shirt that pays their wages..Those big non performing names that are not prepared to battle every game should not be here..Should have been a massive clear out in May..I really would not be upset to see Ruddy,Hoolahan,Redmond,Howson,Hooper, wearing a different shirt, along with Bassong and the prancing Dutch superstar. I will not wish a single one good luck

Of course, the sad fact of life is, if any of them do leave, and many think these guys are Prem class (agent talk) they will be kissing the new badge and smiling at the press conference after the obligatory picture(s) with scarf and shirt. But we shouldn't be bitter as loyalty is for supporters, and Twitter, only.

I'm surprised that people are surprised to be honest. The harsh facts are that Neil won less than 50% of league games with a squad packed with Premier League experience and the last two performances were completely lacking in motivation or passion. If a change was going to happen it HAD to be now.

I think Adams has conducted himself with dignity and honesty and deserves huge respect but his naivety and lack of experience were always evident and ultimately cost him his job. Both the board and the players must take their share of the blame in what has been something of a slow moving train wreck.
