It's starting to look very likely to be Alex Neil, I wonder what that means for Phelan? I suppose if he was willing to work under Neil Adams he has no problem working with relatively inexperienced managers.

Could be an inspired choice, I can't help feeling it's an unnecessary risk when there are available managers with actual experience in the Championship, even if they aren't as exciting.

 One thing's for sure, if he's appointed and it doesn't come off then McNally doesn't have a future at Norwich.

It seems those appointments were made by the board as a whole but this time he has been given free rein to make the choice.

Iwan Roberts is right. They've tied their own hands with this new management structure that no top manager would accept. Rather than admit their mistake they're repeating it.

Could it be that Neil is one of the 3 currently being interviewed for the job? I'd certainly prefer Phelan. It wouldn't take 5 minutes for destructive divisiveness to set in if Neil took over.

A lot of Villa fans would be happy with that. Without doubt, Lambert was excellent when he was here, but would he be the right man now? He left in a cloud, with more than a bit of bad blood with the Board here. Good move, or destabilising? The latter, IMO.

He's doing such a bang up job for the Seals, I for one wold be sad to see him go Howe won't move and Lennon would cost loads because of Bolton's debts Maybe you have to look to Europe or You ain't going to like this because of his Ipswich connections Mowbray

That's why I wasn't being facetious, when I mentioned Mowbray he's had success under a similer club structure he know the area it's just the ipswich thing. But if I supported Norwich I be worried, because that just looks Phelan managing via puppetmastery with him as the fall guy

If this is true, then, bearing in mind the furore that surrounded the Adams appointment, it is unbelievably naive.

I do believe, considering we are free of external debt, that it wouldn't harm to push the boat out in terms of a manager. Why do players have to earn more than managers? Bring in someone that would probably have the fans, media and agents licking their lips. The only ones to be scared would be the players.

Of course it wouldn't guarantee success but no-one can and I'm not advocating someone who wants to spend multi millions but I think the board need some common sense on this one.

Felt I needed to read up a bit before commenting, as I've never heard of Neil. Interesting articles from Scottish and English press, which I recommend to anyone who is similarly not disposed to make a rushed judgement. Universally praised for what he has achieved at Hamilton. Described last year by the Mail as a natural manager. I've read enough to resolve to give him a good go, and feel excited by what he might bring.

Then after this, I shall say no more as I don't want you to think I'm trolling All the Nowich fans are lovely. I like the banter here. But it's one hell of a step up in class. He is also going into a lockeroom, where everybody's played at a higher level

Well shows I know bugger all about potential management appointments, I would have put good money on Phelan. Well, this is a real curved ball and one that shows McNally and the Board have got some big balls themselves. This is a high risk appointment should it be confirmed, and one they must have a lot of faith in.....all we can do is give him time......clearly very highly thought of....well I know that now after having done a bit of wiki fact finding and read a few articles and comments. Did any one on here call this?

That bit hasn't held Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger back (or Brendan Rodgers?). 

It just feels like the club are happy to keep choosing cheap options until they get lucky and hit the jackpot.

I can't think of one person mentioning Scotland, let alone a manager from there Dubai Mark!

You are right, big balls indeed, but it will be  a given that they would have done a lot of homework on him, and this could be another PL type appt, and perhaps I will put my nervousness down to lack of knowledge, but the Prem is close, but we need 'something' extra at the moment, and can Neil deliver it? Nobody on here knows.
