Will Van Wolfswinkel Be A Success With St Etienne?

May be a good deal for us but with the goals he would have scored for us we will be 6o mill better off and in the prem

Aw Paul, dont start, most of us know it was the tactics C.H. used, why do you think Holt left ? He see how the tactics were all about defending and see he never had a chance.

Hooper only scored 5, RVW only scored 1 ok. How come in all the other leagues both were scoring for fun (till they got here ) ? Even Holt was scoring in the prem for fun, till C.H. joined us.

I think he'll score for fun over there and I am gutted he's going.

Despite his season here, he is a goalscorer and he'll prove it, you just have to look at what the Saint-Etienne manager said about him... he's a "true scorer".

Because the Portuguese and dutch leagues are poor compared to the Prem and even the Championship.

He wasn't good enough simple as that and I would take Hooper to score more goals in the Championship than RVW anyday

Well if thats what you think we so be it, IF Hooper stays (which i doubt ) we will find out, but I sill say, RVW will score for fun in France, and will show if we had played to his strengths he would have done it for us.

And I suppose scoring 7 goals in the Europa League, like he done for Sporting is the equivalent to The Johnstones Paint Trophy?

It is an interesting move because the French league is quite physical, and the strikers don't score as much as they do in Eredivisie. 

If he does well in France he will have gone someway towards rebuilding his reputation and confidence, possibly even returning a better player.

Regardless of how we were set up last season under Hughton, there was little to suggest RVW had any of the physical or even technical ability to cut it in the Premier League. Of course, players can have an awful season and then a good one in the same league, and that may be the case for RVW.

The reality is in the games he did play bar a couple of glimpses of some technical ability he couldn't hold the ball up half as well as someone like, even, Hoolahan could.

Unfortunately - people get too caught up in liking the fella and liking the fact we splashed out on a striker. He could well re-kindle his form in St Etienne, not enough for them to splash out 6 mill but enough to get a crack here - and be a success. But his physicality suggests he's going to find it tough, whether that be in the Championship or the Premiership

No the League cup, goals against Genk, Braga and Zurich is hardly Real Madrid or Munich is it.

Hooper has already proved he can score goals in the Championship in a *bleep* poor Scunthorpe team and has played Champions League football and scored against Barcelona.

He also showed much more than RVW did.

Hogesar, Ill be honest, I love the chap ( in a manly way) love how he talks about city, loves his commitment. But still think he could do the job here.

Just remember how many players took time to settle in the first and second seasons.

This pretty much sums up the situation for me. People were desperate to succeed because he seemed like a good guy, probably had a bit of a man crush on him, and was the highest profile signing we'd made since probably Martin Peters. 

Unfortunately he did seem to lack either one of these attributes: 1) pace, 2) strength. He got bullied a bit last year. If he had a bit more pace, or gained some upper body strength, he'd probably be a good player in this country. He isn't going to get any faster - so lets see if he can come back stronger, and whether the discussions between Ricky and the club broached that topic. It may be why he has chosen a physical league, depends how much of an appetite he still has to succeed in England.

Any option to buy that St Etienne would surely be contingent on RVW agreeing terms with them, so don't be surprised if we see him back here.

Conveniently not mentioning goals he's scored against Ath Bilboa, Man City, Benfica and Lazio.
