It's like when your girlfriend leaves for another guy and you're crushed but then you move on to a new relationship and get over her, but then you hear he's dumped her...

As much as i respect him for the wonders he did for our club,  i have to admit i always smiled seeing Villa loose.  I wonder what kind of club will take him on next..

Now if Villa can just take McCarthy it'll be perfect!

I wish him well, although I would still like to see us put one over him at some point! I can't see him getting another job with an EPL after his villa performance, probably more likely an under performing championship club.

If Lambert had issued a similar statement when he left us and thanked City for what we had done for him whilst explaining that he needed to challenge himself further and develop as a manager then, he would have gone with the blessing and thanks of many City fans.

That there was and remains so much bitterness about Lambert's departure really speaks to the ungracious and inept way He handled it. Perhaps he didn't feel that he owed us a farewell. Whatever, the nature of his departure diminished him far more than the fact of it.

I agree that the bitterness which surrounds Lambert amongst Norwich supporters is to do with the manner of his departure. Maybe if McNally had let him talk to Villa when they first approached the club it would have been different. Once he had resigned (constructively dismissed as his legal team put it), and the war of words had begun there was no chance that he was going to issue a statement, and by the time the legal fisticuffs had died down it was too late.

The big difference here is that Lambert was sacked. The dynamics of the situation are very very different. And with my psychologist's hat on I would say that a nice 'how fantastic everyone has been' statement is a great way of regaining control of the situation.

I have no sympathy for Lambert whatsoever. I am extremely grateful for what he did during his 3 years here, and he should be remembered as a Norwich City legend despite what happened, but quite frankly I think it serves him right.

Lambert had the potential to be a fantastic manager at one of the top clubs, and had he stayed with us instead of jumping at the opportunity to go to Villa I have no doubt he would of fulfilled this. If he'd stayed with us for another season or two then he could've learnt even more about the Premier League whilst adapting and improving a squad that he had built himself over the course of 3 very successful years. However, he went to Villa and tried to implement the same tactic with regards to buying players that he had done the previous season with us. Buy young players from the lower leagues who are hungry to play. Unfortunately for him though it massively backfired as it was soon clear that these players weren't ready to step up to a club of Villa's size. Once it all went wrong his lack of Premier League experienced then showed as he didn't have a clue how to change it. If he'd stayed with us I think he would've learnt how to change it, and would've ultimately ended up at a bigger club than Villa.

The season he left as well, we had just finished 4 places higher in the league than Villa had, we had a similar budget to them for the next season, and had a squad of players that was pretty much all bought by Lambert. Why would he want to leave apart from the fact that Villa could offer him more money? That's the reason he left and in my mind he has now wasted the big potential that he had as a manager.

People may say I'm bitter about the fact that his departure ultimately lead to our eventual relegation. And maybe I am, but quite frankly Lambert has deserved everything he has got in my mind, and I'm sure he'll have another job soon enough anyway.

Yeah - that statement of his is pretty irritating when his time at Villa has put his career on a real downward path.  His 3 years from us took him from Colchester to the Premier League so some acknowledgement when he left would've been fair...

Agree with a lot of what has been said already

The statement is saying the blinding obvious though, don't you think? The 'hardest job of his career'? Yep, cos Livingston and Colchester were never going to test his tactical /managerial skills at any great level, and without any other pressures, and coming to us, the only way was up, he had nothing to lose (and did an excellent job) As soon as we had rode the crest of the wave in that first Prem season, then he was then on borrowed time. His skillset at Villa has been exposed, and we are the only successful part of his managerial career to date.

Darren Bent also says something telling, in that they need fresh ideas and new tactics.

Sorry to bring politics back into it again chaps, but the Lambert situation reminds me of Nick Clegg. Everyone loved him until he betrayed them to get a bigger bite of the pie. Now both are hated and I've a sneaky feeling it wont be long before both are unemployed. I have the same quesiton to both - was it worth it?

Latest comments coming from the Villa Board, was that watching Villa play wasn't 'fun'. Also Lambert was given a good amount of funds.

Also liked the bit about Lambert getting sacked by a phone call , but wanted to have a one to one meeting to talk about it, but was refused!

Perhaps the McNally haters may wish to realise that our Board have never commented like the Villa Board have, over his departure.

Perhaps the real answer will come after his next appointment, or even at the end of his managerial career, as to whether we were a one off, in his strive to be  a top manager

He's going to make a killing on his financial package. Signed a four year deal when they were second and the fans thought the sun shone out of his arris. In my eyes, his been doing a stella job, the club is the lowest scorers in all 92 league clubs with 12. Yet he let Darren Bent, a player the club paid £18m for. Go for free, and, he had been dropping Benteke from the squad. They signed Christian Gil and Scott Sinclair. Who was an utter failure at ours. I'm sad to see him go as now they may have a chance to stay up

Im curious Baggie - why do you post on this site? You are very welcome and its always interesting to get comments from fans of other clubs so we get an outside perspective - but why do you post on a Norwich forum? Do you post on other clubs boards too? Do you think you will follow us more now that we have signed Dorrans?
