I wonder if clubs not naming 25 is intentional or simply a resultant of transfer deadline day activity not going as planned (ie theyre happy with not having a full squad and other young players who dont need to be named, or whether it indicates they engineered a spot then failed to land someone). With that space, and the lack of left back cover and centre-backs whether Miquel really needed to have his contract terminated. Would he have needed naming or was he young enough to escape it. Seems he wasnt obviously good enough, but would he have been better than noone?

It will probably be less than 24 when the loan window opens. 

I personally think we should loan out Declan Rudd, because he has the potential to become better than John Ruddy but isn't going to get there without playing. 

Difficult to envisage Lafferty staying, Alex Neil was pretty quick to bomb him out when he arrived.

Nope, we can't loan anyone outside the transfer window.

we cant do any international loans or to other prem clubs;   but to championship clubs or below are permitted from next week.

Prudent to name all 24 senior pros not already on long term loans but its hard to see that we really need 6 strikers (incl Loza) this season so suspect either Lafferty or Hooper will play;  fair play to Lafferty he has shown is love for playing wherever rather than bench warming and an easy life.

Staggering that we nearly have as many strikers in the 24 as defenders when we play with a 4-1 ratio on match days.   Simply and glaringly unbalanced.

Exactly. When we do an 11v11 match on the training pitch, who do we play in defence? You need 8 defenders for that. 

Stoke have 8 defenders in their 25 man squad, and that feels like the right sort of number.

This sounds about right for a 25:   3 keepers, 8/9 defenders, 8/9 midfielders & wingers, 4 strikers

Simple answer is you throw youth players in, thats how they learn and step up.

Most Premier League teams that haven't named the full 25 man squad simply because they don't have enough "home grown" players to fill the quota.
