Not having a go at him, but Whittaker's actions at Southampton were very immature for a player of his experience,  I see he didn't get into the team for Scotland against Georgia.  He really does need to up his game and behavior, hopefully this suspension will do him some good. I cannot see much difference between what he did and what Grabban did at Rotherham last season.   Both very unprofessional and lets everyone down

The first yellow was unprofessional, the second was simply naive.

It all comes down to taking a silly card for an unnecessary action that opened up the chance for a sending off, but I do think it's fair to point out that the 2nd yellow was VERY soft and most refs would have seen straight through it and possibly even booked the opposing player for making hand gestures to demand a card for Whitts...

Every team does that, because its such a huge advantage. 

Can you remember when Bradders fell down like he'd been headbutted by Joey Barton, Holt sprinted over to the linesman protesting who then flagged, then Holt ran over to the referee just as he'd shown a red card and then pretended he was angry at the ref for ruining the game. 

Johnson and Holt had decided to target Barton that day, it was obvious, did a good job of it too!

And when pundits and commentators state that "he's entitled to go down if there is contact" and "seeing the players reaction, he left the referee with no choice", then I don't think we will see the end of it for a long time.

Naive is the word to aim at Whittaker.
