Anyone who wasn't a major player for a political party who damn near bankrupted this country morty.
Do you have a name at all, or just anyone?

And as a sidenote, the global economic crisis was not the fault of any particular political party.

Obviously morty, I don't move in the circles of power to know who is available but I wouldn't pick a close friend of the owners that's for sure!

Now I'm seriously worried just how well AN will be backed in the transfer window.

If you were to put yourself in their position surely picking someone you know and trust makes sense? As long as they have the necessary personal traits and / or qualifications obviously.

Can you explain how Ed Balls being appointed chairman makes you concerned about the January budget exactly? If I was a guessing man, how much they intend spending would have been decided some time ago, and unless Bowket emptied the till before he left, I can't imagine that would change.

I'm happy with this appointment.  Ed Balls is a genuine fan and a personable guy.  He Is regularly iin the States, where 'Soccer' (yuck) is becoming more and more popular, and may well have contacts there who could benefit the Club.

(To be honest, I was not overwhelmed by the appointment of Bowkett, knowing at close hand about some his industrial relations practices, but he was just the man we needed at the time, and was also a true fan.)

And it's an unpaid figurehead type appointment, so even if the nonsense about the last Labour Goverment singlehandedly causing the global economic crisis were true, he will not be able to pursue these alleged diabolical schemes at our dear Club.

The role of Chairman is to hold the board to account and to ensure proper behavior, can you explain how This function being performed by Ed Balls has any impact on the transfer budget?

I honestly believe there is no one in the boardroom now who would disagree with the owners often herald 'prudence with ambition' policy.

I had hoped the new chairman would be from some outside source 'investing' in City.

I am pretty sure it isn't the fascist regime that you like to paint it as. The CEO is still charged with the day to day running of the club. With the limited investment we have at the club, like it or not, the prudent approach is the correct one, for now.

Its all very easy spending money when its not actually yours, isn't it?

And there are more new board members to be appointed, I believe they said.

I probably have got this wrong morty but weren't you demanding the board back AN this window?

Absolutely.

But I'm not sure how appointing a new chairman, regardless of who he is, affects this in any way.

The good news I think is the line about looking at future strategy that has to include future ownership so let's see what happens

Apologies morty, demanding is too harsh, asking would be more accurate.

Not in the slightest mate, if the board don't back Alex Neil properly this January I'll see you down Carrow road with a burning torch!!

I have seen a few people who purport to be "in the know" about such things, and theres hints about things changing, particularly regarding the level of prudence.

I must confess I don't know what the job really involves but Balls seems a decent choice. The candidates for something like this will all be super busy already so a key thing will be to find someone who will carve out some time for it. Yes, being a fan is a big tick here.

According to the guardian this position is unpaid!

Now that makes me really question this appointment, surely Bowkett wasn't "unpaid".

And surely Ed Balls still has to make a living, so clearly isn't going to give priority to this role over his other roles.

I'm now a bit cynical about this appointment as there is clearly a limit to how many hours he is going to put in to an unpaid role. Surely less than Bowkett, who was remunerated handsomely I believe (at least with bonuses?).

Have we just given the job to him because he was willing to do it for free? Just feels like a weird arrangement, would expect him to be on some sort of salary, even if its just a basic one for a limited number of contracted hours.

Nah pretty sure Bowkett was unpaid, I don't think any of the board members are paid. And theres a few people who paw over the accounts each year, had there been any mysterious payments to them, am pretty sure they would have been revealed by now.

Regardless of his politics, he is undoubtly a genuine NCFC fan.  He has a season ticket just behind us in the Barclay - often used by members of his family when he's away - and when he is at CR he is often to be seen there, not freeloading with the prawn sandwich brigade.  Also a football fan generally, unlike the majority of our legislators who seem to have more affinity to rugger!

Given that, his first class degree in economics from Oxford, the masters from Harvard and the fact he is a visiting lecturer in economics at  some of the most prestigious universities in the world, I would say he has a pretty decent CV to be our club chairman.

I also happen to know (from the occasional complaint shouted from behind me - I am not in any way on the know beyond that! - that he was not enamoured by our style of play under Hughton!

I wonder how he will work with McNally though???
