I think Bamford is overrated and wouldn't suit our style, to be honest I would rather go with what we have than bring him in.

I honestly think that the best signing we could make in this window other than Naismith is to simply sign Mbokani on a permanent deal. I think he is class and with his style of play could go on to 35+ easily, he'd be a good investment.
The problem with Bamford is that he has been moaning publicly about his "terrible" loan at Palace where he's been used as a sub. Exact same situation would arise here, he'll be on the bench a lot, if he wants to play frequently at 22 he needs to drop back down to the Championship because although he's a player with a lot of potential he ain't Harry Kane.
But, Bournemouth are interested in Bamford apparently. What if we sign Mbokani on a permanent and then loan Bamford until the end of the season as a temporary measure, forcing Bournemouth to make a move for Grabban again in this window?
As a straight swap for Grabban for 3rd striker, its not a backwards step is it? More like a sideways step. I doubt Grabban is any more likely to score 5 or 6 goals for Bournemouth than Patrick Bamford.
So if we loan Bamford in order to receive £5m+ for Grabban and use that towards signing Mbokani, that would be good business?
I'd rather that than spend £8m on Dwight Gayle, a professional penalty taker, and then losing Mbokani at the end of the season when he reaches double figures and gets snapped up by Southampton or somebody a little further up the food chain.

We can leave the Mbokani deal till the summer though, theres no rush to do anything on that. I'd like to hope that a price for purchase was agreed as part of the loan deal.
I doubt Bamford would be interested in another loan deal if he has just binned the Palace one. Maybe he fancies fighting for his place back at Chelsea.

I really hope so, because it would suck if his price is rising with every Premier League goal scored. If Dwight Gayle is £8m in this market then Mbokani will be a £15m striker by the time he has finished this season (although maybe I'm in the top 2% of Norwich fans when ranked in order of how highly they rate him, ha).

I don't think we'd pay £8m for someone who will be bought in to compete with Wes. I have no doubt Naismith has been bought in to play as a striker, the versatility is just an added bonus.
Happy with this, £8m is probably more than he's worth but at the end of the day if he gets a few goals that help to keep us up then it'll be worth it. Always liked him as a player and I think the way we play is quite well suited to him.

I'm not fully convinced by Naismith. It would be interesting to know what Everton fans think his best position is. He had only scored in one PL game this season (albeit 3 times in that) and does not provide the assists that Wes does. I'm sure he has strengths but I just need a bit of convincing what these are.

It was reported at the time of M'Bokani's signing that we had an option to purchase. As an option to purchase usually an agreed price, there seems some likelihood that we have agreed the transfer fee.

An early deal is looking less likely according to the BBC website with Martinez wanting to hang on till mid January before discussing as Everton have 5 fixtures in 14 days (League Cup?).

His best position is as a second striker. He's a tireless worker, who is great in the air for his size. He's also a good finisher, when presented with chances.
He can also play as the main striker or on either wing, but us everton fans have never been convinced with him out wide. If I had to play him wide, I'd say he's better on the left (where he can cut inside) than on the right, where he's never really shown a lot for us.
He's not an elegant number 10, he's somebody who will look to win the ball, lay it off, and get in the box to be on the end of things.
If he plays week in, week out, then he WILL score goals whilst being a general nuisance. Everton fans have often said in jest over the years that he's the 'Scottish Messi' or 'albino Messi' the reality is however, that he's much more like the Scottish Tim Cahill.
