Fry was always there to take advantage of his high social media profile, but had nothing to offer from a football point of view. This ambassadorial role makes much more sense and allows Tom Smith to come in and learn the ropes for when Delia and Michael call it a day.

A senior board member was asked recently about the new board lineup and the succession plan.

Let's just say the individual was far from impressed with the situation. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a criticism of Tom as a new board member, the feeling was one of disappointment that the succession plan basically blows out of the water any idea of large scale investment coming into the club.

NB: The individual is a good person with the best interests of the club at heart, I don't want to name names on a public forum and risk any bad feeling developing, we need everyone at the club working together get to where we want to be.

But does it though? I should imagine that the whole thing is fluid, and that if the right person were to come along ( which they haven't up until now) then the situation would be reevaluated. Delia and Michael have always maintained they would step aside if the right offer came in, and it was in the best interests of Norwich City, I doubt that mantra has changed.

But as I say, that has always been the mantra, and I don't see that changing. It depends when Delia and Michael intend giving it up, but if an offer came in tomorrow I am sure it would be considered. The fact is though despite people flailing their arms about wanting a big money backer, there hasn't been hordes of them banging on the door, desperate to invest. They can't just amble along with no succession plan hoping that some Russian oil baron sees us on the telly one day, and gives us a billion.

Well if either of them have issue, perhaps they should scrape the money together to buy the majority shareholding then!

What pricked my ears up was the way this board change was seen as a clearly defined point that acted as a block to big investment.

There was some passion in the argument.
