I think we have really improved our chances of staying up and moving forward, replacing players that weren't featuring with ones that have a genuine chance of doing so. And in the case of Naismith I think we will look back, once we have survived, and praise the part he had in it.

Can anyone remember the last time we had 3 strikers that were genuine contenders for a starting place?

Well let's see first if they really are contenders  

Previous season we had plenty of strikers and before season I would have guessed Hooper to be one to have a part, but at the end he didn't. Also Jerome has clearly dropped out of AN's starting 11 so if Bamford can get front of him I dont think we will see Jerome too much. Anyway I agree that it is always good to have competition.

And even thought I sound very negative these days I don't mean to be. I just want us to stay up as much as possible as it is very rare pleasure to see championship games here in Finland so to see my favorite team week to week means us to stay in Premiership. I'm just afraid we are playing it a bit too safe and don't agree that this was fantastic window.

I think the board is still doing ok job. Nothing really to complain, but just can't jump in the "happy clappers" train or whatever it was they called me in that pink forum.

Signing established Premier League players and a guy that played a big part in Wolfsburg's second place Bundesliga finish last year isn't ambitious enough?

Some people really need to take a step back sometimes and look at how far the club has moved forward in the last 6 years or so. 

Also, please note - we've played half a season with an often symbolic defence and forwards that rarely score and aren't in the bottom 3.

If we signed for example Casillas, Xavi, Vidic and David Villa I wouldn't be any more exited than I'm now. It is not about signing high status players or being over ambitious. It is how we act and do in the markets. 

As I said both Naismith and Klose ar probably good signings. Hopefuly they are enough to keep us up, but in my opinion we just do short term planning when we should look already few seasons forward and spending high on Naismiths and Kloses is just about the bar what we should do, not over it, not under. We are just putting bubblegum in the tire holes where we should be looking for getting new tires.

What? In the last couple of windows we've sold or released players that aren't good enough, receiving a fair amount of cash in the process, and signed some that are. I'd say that's exactly what we should be doing. I think we've learned our lessons from mistakes in recent windows but I guess only time will tell here.

Norwich have one of the better youth setups in the country and it's always improving. I believe both first and youth team facilities are improving, although it was something that had seemingly been neglected in recent times. I don't want to sound like a Delia soundbyte here but we've also removed a lot of debt in recent years and are in the best shape we've been in for a long time.

I think Klose, Naismith, Jarvis and hopefully Pinto will be parts of a new bike, not just makeshift repairs. It would be nice if we could sign a bunch of highly rated young players to develop but in reality we're 17th in the league and need an impact within the next few weeks. I think that will come in coming windows when safety is ensured.

This whole short term long term debate is spurious. If we don't survive in the Prem this season then, all the long term planning and promising youth matters not a jot.  Bigger clubs will come and take them. 

We need players who can deliver now. With the possible exception of Bamford, this window we have signed grown ups who know how the game works and will do what it takes to keep us up.  For every Kane there are 50 Lozas. Anyway, you ignore that we signed Godfrey. Very much a long term investment.

Naismith "a good squad signing".....................??? ......are you forgetting the level of players we were signing just a few years back or, the financial mess the club was in? We have come a long way, and go and sign a class act like Naismith, a player who came on as sub not so long ago against Chelsea and scored a hat-trick and he is just "a good squad signing"...........have I missed something?

I've just spent a weekend with my dad, who when it comes to Norwich City is about as Canary Call as you can get (I hope he never actually calls them, if he does I'll have to change my name). 

So that explains my pessimism, negativity is contagious!

Anyone reckon anything else will happen tomorrow? Neil did say after signing Klose that he wants 2 more players, so far we've only bought in 1 (Bamford). Don't know which position we'd be looking to strengthen, but a quality signing anywhere on the pitch would be welcome.

Also, I think the board and Neil deserve credit for this window. The board have learnt their lessons from a couple seasons ago and have gone all out and backed Neil with the money, and Neil (who would've undoubtedly had help but even so) has strengthened the 3 main areas of the pitch that needed strengthening (right back, centre back, up front) and then some. I think we've had a great window and have certainly improved our chances.

Doubt we'll be signing anyone, hopefully Neil will say otherwise in his presser. Could see one or two leaving though.

Deadline days next season will be a bit more fun as I believe they're scrapping the emergency loan system.

We have done a pretty good job at getting our signings through "early".  And as far as I can see, we haven't really over-paid - I think we'd have paid about the same amounts for these signings in the summer.

It will be interesting to see if we end up getting one more through at the last minute.  If not, I'm pretty satisfied with this window, although I would accept it has been making up for a poor summer window to a degree.

Yeah tells quite much more about that forum than me.  

But Naismith is good player. Althought he doesn't have any other world class qualities than his work rate. He improves the squad  and improves squad overall, but really isn't signing that has "first name in the sheet" written over him. Also let me do my mantra again and repeat that  his price (in our standards), wage and age he kind a should be. If  he (not alone of course) can keep us up totally worth it, but if he can't it puts a big question mark over the signing.

And another thing that everyone seems to think I want us to sign players with huge potential in age range of 17-22. No I dont.

I just would  expect us to find new Howson kind of deals out there. Even thought he isn't and ever wasn't most potential player in the world he played already in a good level and has grown to be very important player for us and we paid peanuts from him compared to market prices and back then we were even less profilic club that we are now.

As I said our board has done ok job, after failure in summer window, but if you want me to be exited as  else seems to be they should have found player like Naismith in a bit cheaper price or bit younger age. Pinto is for example good catch with the price. Well calculated risk. If he fails this season he has no problem to play us next season in championship or we have decent option in right age to cover whoever we sign for premiership next year.I

I know our only real goal is stay up and these signings are quite much done to reach that goal and I can give kudos (if i write the word right) for that, but have to agree to disagree that our board would have done major job in this window and I should praise them just doing their job.

That world class work rate is the only world class attribute we have in the squad. I think you've underrated him though, he'll be one of the first names on the teamsheet for sure. Price wise it's a standard fee for an established Premier League player, one that greatly improves our first eleven, not only our squad. 

Obviously the club need to look outside of the Premier League for deals, they do. Funny you'd mention Howson, considering how the market has moved on in the last few years I wonder what we'd be paying for him now.

We've obviously paid a big premium for Naismith simply because he knows this league and needs no time to settle in or adapt to the league. Even in this market we've paid a big price for a 29 year old, but we need wins and goals now, not in April when we're already relegated. 

When you are sitting in 17th there isn't really any room to try and integrate people who need time to adapt, look at how long it has taken for Mbokani to settle and start being more involved in games.  

Also, we could potentially get 4 or 5 good years out of Naismith, he's not long 29 and its only now at 33 that Hoolahan is starting to show signs that he's coming to the end, so entirely possible that we can get 4/5 seasons and 150+ games out of Naismith. 

I do understand the argument that we should be looking to sign players who have their peak ahead of them, and resale value, etc. Only that doesn't always work out, I doubt anybody at the club thought we'd be stuck with Van Wolfswinkel on the payroll whilst he sits on the bench for Real Betis, they were probably hoping that he'd bang in a load of goals and then go to Liverpool for £25m.

Very quiet deadline day, like others that have gone past....Not a big fan of all the deadline day hype, always ends in disappointment. A good months work for NCFC well done AN, the board and all involved.
