In France - yes, was still beind asked to play as a target man, and St.Etienne focused most of their play through Gradel on the left rather than centrally (regardless if Erdinc or RvW was selected).

In Spain - not so much, but not being played because you're behind in the pecking order, with the club's star striker being a very similar type of striker (just quicker) and the guy who is keeping you out, is hardly RvW's fault either (Castro played more games and minutes than ANYONE else at Betis last season).

If the argument is that in order for Van Wolfswinkel to succeed you effectively need to build your entire system around him, then sorry but he isn't a 22 year old Fernando Torres and definitely not worthy of doing that, if we were to sign McCormack then Van Wolfswinkel will struggle to get a look in.

So that's the likes of Gerd Muller, Hugo Sanchez, Robbie Fowler, Pippo Inzaghi, Davor Suker, Romario, Michael Owen, Raul, Ferenc Puskas and Gunner Nordahl all dismissed as utter shite because they had the temerity to be goal poachers rather than the 'complete forward' that is favoured in the modern game...seriously...what a crock of *bleep*.

What's more, I didn't see any of their club managers demanding they play as target men, giving them little to no supply, and then bemoaning their lack of performance, instead they played them to their strengths, got bucketloads of goals in return and their clubs benefitted massively from it - but apparently we'd rather just loan the guy out and call him a waste of money and a *bleep* player instead...no wonder I think modern football is going down the shitpan

Yeah, if Van Wolfswinkel was one of the fastest players in the Premier League he'd have done fine, like Michael Owen. He wasn't though, he doesn't have any pace. 

Besides, those players you named come from an era when 4-4-2 was common and you'd play a big man with a little man. Teams don't play 4-4-2 anymore, the poacher is a dying breed because they have been rendered redundant.

Besides, I'm not sure you'd even call all of those players poachers. Just because they are diminutive and scored goals? Take Owen for example, he could run with the ball from his own half, beat every defender, and the round the keeper.... he was nothing like Gary Lineker for example, who would be the archetypal English poacher who just hung around the 6 yard box waiting for tap ins. I think you may be forgetting how good Owen was, at Liverpool he could completely take the p*ss and was genuinely world class and Messi-esque. Short lived unfortunately, because he lost that pace, but Van Wolfswinkel has never had it to lose.

If we can't offload him and we don't sign another forward I still think he'll quickly find himself behind Jerome, Lafferty, Morris and probably some actual school boys. There are 23 managers in the Championship that would love us to utilise him.

Nothing to do with modern football. He'd have been *bleep* in previous decades too.

way I see it, he is at least the fourth best forward we have and since we need four at least he'll have to do. 

I wouldnt mind mind seeing a big man little man 442 at some point this season even if it's not  the default option. If we do I reckon he is worth a half.

Assuming Jerome is the big man, who do you think, within reason, could be the little man? McCormack if we are spending big? Who if we aren't? It seems we just need a decent "striker" to complete the jigsaw.

I believe we have enough about us to play 4-4-2 in this division. It is time to stop allowing the opposition to dictate the game and impose NCFC, just demoted from the Prem, on Championship clubs. Jerome, Tettey and hopefiully Klose will give us a good spine and we have enough decent players, in this league anyway, to play off them and create problems for most if not all sides. Positivity from players who like to play that way.

Great news that the whole sorry saga is over but more importantly, has the club learned lessons from it? It seems like a textbook example of how not to handle a transfer. I hope they're not just thinking it was a freak occurrence of a great player turning out to be rubbish because there's more to it than that.
