Rightly all the talk has been of Wes's imminent departure. Will Saturday see the last home game of another City stalwart in Alex Tettey? Many would like to see him stay another season if agreement could be reached. Will there be an announcement before Saturday's match? Many would like the opportunity show their appreciation if he is to leave. Many regard him too as a legend, maybe not in the same class as Wes but still a legend. So what about it City?

As I said in the other thread, I believe he has been offered something, but probably wants to keep his options open. I guess it very much depends on whether or not the club see Ben Godfrey as ready to slip into Tettey's boots. The lad is highly rated, and has done his time on loan, so could feel a bit miffed if he found himself behind Tettey in the pecking order.

The fact we have offered him anything shows we want him to stay. So that has strengthened his position a little.

Which links back to something that went unsaid or wasn't detected last summer when they didn't offer Ruddy a reduced deal because they didn't want to "insult" him. What they actually meant was they didn't want to keep him but dressed it up nicely.

So are we now saying they are happy to "insult" Tettey? ;-)

Yep, he's still ended up being our most effective 'combative' midfielder out of all of our players this season.

There are bigger factors at play here. Hopefully Thompson will be fit, we have Trybull, and the highly rated Godfrey coming back. There comes a point where you have to weigh all that up. Apparently Prem clubs were sniffing around Godfrey, so we could, very much, run the risk of losing him unless he gets games. I would love Tettey to stay another year, but it is governed on how much that would cost us, and whether or not Alex is prepared to maybe play a bit part.

I think they know they need him but they want to get him as cheaply as they can - naturally.

Its a roll of the dice, and it very much depends of how highly they rate Godfrey, who is, by far, a much cheaper option.

You're not the one having to balance the books against managing fans' expectations though

But they don't want to let Tettey go.

I'm sure Alex can do the maths for himself but if he can't then his agent certainly will. I suspect an improved offer will be coming his way

But we are also still saddled with Naismith, Martin and Jarvis. And of course, everything very much depends if we have 25 million quid rattling around in our back pockets from the Maddison sale. I'm sure the club would like Tettey to stay, but I would like to hope that our days of overpaying for players have gone now. Webber will have a back up plan in place if Tettey doesn't accept our offer.

Got a feeling McGovern is on a wedge too, despite coming from a tinpot Scottish side. Came here after a good Euro's and turned down a Prem offer to sign for us.

Annoying that Rudd was probably on acceptable wages but was sold because we were stuck with him.

Oliviera is probably on good money too seeing as he came here off of the back of good form at Forest... but strikers always earn a lot. That's where we need to invest properly this summer.

Oliviera would be worth the money if he delivers a bit more, I am hoping whatever tinkering is done over the summer helps him find the net.
