What a huge drain on our meagre resources these three are, and now you've discovered McGovern is another bugger. I would hate to think that an excessive amount of Maddison's expected transfer, taking into account Coventry's share, is going to have to go on paying the wages of those 4 for the next how ever long, to see out their contracts. No doubt a considerable amount will be salted away to make sure we remain 'self sufficient' as well. We'll need therefore to get a good price, probably, for the likes of Murphy, Oliveira, Klose and Pinto to buy a striker and replace whoever has to be replaced as I see it. Let's face it no bugger is going to buy Martin, Naismith or McGovern and Jarvis is a write off......................

I notice that Klose and Pinto are into the last year of their contracts, I assume we'll be, pretty aggressively, marketing them this summer, and if not, certainly next January.
Its a very difficult balance though, of course we need to cut costs, and spend within our means, but we also have to remain competitive as well. Most people have been patient and understanding (ish) this season, but will expect at least play offs next season. So you have decisions to make on the likes of Klose and Pinto, sell rather than let them walk away for nothing, or decide that you need them to remain competitive. Thats assuming that someone wants to buy them, of course.
This summer is going to be even more of a challenge than last, in my opinion.

Not sure what the situation is with Jarvis, he missed an expected appearance for u23 recently, and I read that the game yesterday didn't allow for over age players, so we couldn't get a look at his fitness then. Be good if the question can be asked in the presser for the Leeds game.

Last season we got bodies in to replace a number of leavers and whilst more will leave this season the focus has to be on quality and not quantity if we want to seriously challenge the top 6. What makes it even more difficult is this is the window Webber originally stated as being the one where we get the squad that him and Farke want. If that squad doesn't deliver im not sure Webber, or Farke, will have a future at the club.

I wonder whether we are on course in his eyes. I suspect Naismith going to Hearts instead of Rangers has derailed it a bit, considering one can probably pay three times more of his wages than the other. Also Nelson Oliviera halving his own transfer value this season probably wasn't expected.
And Hanley was clearly a decision to go over budget after Franke flopped. Franke now one to add to the list of players we're probably stuck with. Oh and I'm sure Webber gave Russell Martin his new contract with the expectation that he would play, and then realised that he just isn't good enough.
The homegrown player quota thing is a complication too. At times this season Hoolahan has been left out of the 18 because he's not homegrown.... Gunn and Reed going home. And Murphy and Maddison are two of our more obvious players to have a high potential transfer value, and Watkins is pants and we should snap Bristol City's hands off for their £1m (but probably can't until we've signed more homegrown players).
Hoolahan not being homegrown was probably a major factor in the decision to let him go this summer.
To be honest it still feels like a bit of a mess. McGovern isn't actually homegrown so trying to loan him to Hamilton or something and promoting Remi Matthews + signing an English goalkeeper would help.
Should probably just bring Jed Steer back and let him fight it out with Matthews.... or Mark Bunn the professional number 2, sure Villa will let one of those leave for peanuts as they won't require both. Or Lee Camp on a free if we're as skint as we think, he's crap but homegrown and still not as crap as McGovern.
Ironic that we probably have one of the best records in English football for producing English goalkeepers but find ourselves seriously short in that department. There's also Joe Lewis doing well at Aberdeen.
Does make you wonder why we sold Rudd though, would have been preferable to just loan him out for the season again and then have him compete with Matthews for the shirt.

The figure for home grown players is increasing from 6 to 7 as from next season, so it is a concern.
A “Home Grown Player” is defined in the (Rule 33.8) as a player who:

McLean isn't homegrown as he came through in Scotland. Same with McGovern (and Hoolahan came through in Ireland).
Has to be England or Wales.
Makes sense to just loan out McGovern to somewhere and get an English keeper to sit on the bench. Jed Steer perhaps (who would also count towards our 'club developed player' quota).
The Premier League homegrown player thing is why Chelsea, Man City etc pay over the odds for ridiculously average English players like Rodwell by the way.... and why Nathan Redmond will stay in the Premier League if Southampton get relegated despite having a rubbish season and seriously lacking end product.
And why Ruddy were linked with a £5m move to Arsenal and Chelsea to be their number 2 a few years back.
I'd have Korey Smith back here by the way if we lose Tettey! Don't know if we can afford him, but we could offer £1.5m of the Maddison money + Marley Watkins
