Nicky Butt also has numerous Premier League medals. FA and League Cups etc. Plus a Champions League. To add to all those England caps.

Which he has because he was a very good player.

There is a ridiculous big club bias with England though. Did you notice how Nicky Butt's England career finished the moment he moved to Newcastle at 28? Did he become a worse player overnight?

I actually think that Mark Noble is a very good player and one of the best of his generation not to get an England cap, and its due to his loyalty as a one club man to West Ham. Fair play to him for not selling his soul and moving to a big 5 club at the first opportunity to help fill a homegrown player quota like wasteman Jack Rodwell (England International, by the way).

Although Butt vs Noble comparison isn't a great one, because there is a decade between them. How about we just point out that Jack Rodwell has 3 England caps because he sat on the bench for Man City occasionally and won a Premier League medal with 11 appearances one season, and Mark Noble has 0 to show for 14 years at West Ham (many of them as their captain) and 12 years in the Premier League? He used to captain the England U21's by the way.

If he'd gone and sat on the bench at Chelsea for a year early in his career like Scott Parker he'd have a higher profile for the rest of his days and been seen as more fashionable and therefore worthy of England selection.... Parker was bang average too, and won nothing, but got 18 caps because he was a backup player at a couple of big clubs.

ps. Plenty of very mediocre players have been involved in successful teams and picked up medals, and many class players finish having won very little. By your criteria David May was better than Tony Adams?

Clearly there are a few sh*tty decisions when it comes to England call ups.

Noble is a very good player but not a great one. Not that all England players are great but I don't tend to watch anyone in midfield for England and think he would be better.

They could do with someone more dynamic in the middle and that should be Shelvey.

Shelvey gained a bit of a reputation as a liability last season and earlier in this season unfortunately, probably scared Southgate off of picking him for a major tournament.

Shame Wilshere got injured again in March really, was starting to show what he was capable of again for the first time in a long time. Absence of guile in midfield is probably why Southgate's tactics so often bypass that part of the pitch, was a bit shocked how direct we were. Did look quite effective in the first half though, albeit against Tunisia.... see how that goes against Belgium

Morty I think it was Howson who said that he wanted to get into the England squad when he arrived, so did Hooper. Both probably getting a little bit ahead of themselves.

Grant Holt was gutted not to get the call in 2012. Was never going to get one was he, although Kevin Davies got one or two so stranger things have happened!

Do think it was a bit of travesty that Hucks didn't get a few really, especially as we kept hearing about how England didn't have any left wingers when he was playing... sure they could have given him a go against Azerbaijan or something to see how he got on! Think Michael Gray got a few on that left side, he's probably the Norwich player who could be most aggrieved (since Ian Crook).

Whether he'll fit into the England squad or not is a different question, looking at how they played tonight and he doesn't fit into that at all.... forgot how ugly our style of football is, we don't really do patient passing football and advanced playmakers do we

Maddison will probably retire wishing that he was born half Dutch or Portuguese.

Eh? We played Sterling, Lingard and Alli in our starting 11. We dominated possession and passed the ball around (Tunisia passed the ball around too, to be fair).

Not sure how you determine we don't do patient passing football as that's what most people were moaning at us for in the second half!

Think it's the perfect move for Maddison. Can't wait to see what he'll do in the Prem, undoubtedly a future England regular.

£22m rising to £25m is great business as well. Now let's go and get some players in ourselves, starting with Leitner. Him, Jack Marriott, Marcus Maddison, and Danny Ward and Eddie Nketiah on loan would be perfect IMO. Leistner on a free in place of Klose maybe as well. So hopefully someone with the power to make signings is reading this, because I clearly speak a lot of sense.

Has he not done that already? I seem to recall him thanking everyone and all but saying goodbye at the end of the season.
