10 apparently. And Ben and Jamal played with painkilling injections. I can't believe I am seeing people saying the injuries aren't an excuse.

Reading Tettey, Trybul and Hanley may be back for Bournemouth. Can only help things.

That was grim, wasn't it. Agree that it's wrong to dismiss the injuries as a cause. Back line includes one out of position, two apparently not fully fit, and third choice keeper behind. Not surprisingly they are not looking so confident across the pitch. But we know these players are capable of great performances - just gotta hang in there and play smart. And maybe bring in a central defender now.

I think we can no longer rely on Klose to stay fit, and a central defender must be number one priority in January.

Yup. Think that's been the case for a while now with Klose. But unless they plan on getting rid of someone it's hard to see them adding another CB when they've got 4 and Amadou (who may or may not be able to play there).

problem for me wasn't even the defence, Villa didn't even have to go close to the defenders when the midfield failed to track and press they could just shoot at will from the edge of the box, which they did successfully, we needed Amadou, Tettey or Trybull in midfield yesterday, but due to the injury situation none of those were an option with Amadou having to fill in at centre back, hopefully the international break will give us a chance to get refocused and get some players fit and healthy

also all things considered and despite conceeding five goals, I thought McGovern did pretty well, and made some good saves to keep the score down to just five

I know it was only 15/20 minutes, but I thought Roberts looked quite lively and must be close to replacing either Steipermann or Buendia

Wasn't it the case in the summer that voices were raised in unison, we need a dm and a CB?

Did we buy several young attacking midfielders?
Yep

Depends which division you believe the club's intention is to play in next season....................? Buy players with poor injury records and they will only stay fit for a limited period. Everybody couldn't wait for Buendia to rip up the PL, I think he's had one good game. Where would we be without Pukki's goals? Our midfield is so lightweight that if they played in a high wind they'd end up blown off the pitch, and that includes the injured. Sure the injuries make a difference, but we are out of our league, as is being said the PL has become faster and more physical since we were last in it, and we are just not up to it with the current crop even when fit. Sorry, my view.

Ravaged by injury or not, Saturday was completely unacceptable. Cannot be losing to a relegation rival at home in that manner.

Getting a few players back after the international break will obviously be a big boost, but Farke really needs to give the team a kick up the arse before the Bournemouth game. Stiepermann really, really needs to be dropped, just absolutely nowhere near good enough this season. Only positive is Drmic getting off the mark.

Next game I'd go for a team of: Krul; Aarons, Hanley, Godfrey, Lewis; Amadou, Trybull; Buendia, Roberts, Cantwell; Pukki. Really need to sure up that defensive midfield as it's been far too lightweight since the Manchester City game (albeit through no fault of our own due to injuries).

I think you’re being kind to Buendia, I’d move McLean higher up which is where he should be playing in my opinion

Didn't go as I was at the athletics, but watching replays I'd say Mo was at fault trying long passes that don't reach there target, plus the defence always looked wide open -needs to be sorted.

I can see Hanley being offloaded / upgraded.

I doubt that will happen in January now, club will be scared to leave themselves short again. We'll probably sign a centre back on loan with a view to purchase.

Also he's homegrown and we have no overseas player spots left, so if anybody leaves it will be a foreign player.

I can foresee a situation where one or two foreign players are loaned out to make way for other foreign players on loan, with a view to buy if they impress and we stay up.

Srbeny probably the obvious candidate for going out on loan to make room for another overseas player if Drmic stays fit, with Idah getting some time from the bench in the second half of the season?

A bit limited in what we can do in January, we can take one more domestic loan but somebody will have to leave if we want to shop on the continent. Could be a surprise in order? Another option if both keepers get fit would be to drop McGovern from the 25 as he is not homegrown.

Tettey may be the surprise candidate for a loan, as strange as that would feel with him being needed at this moment in time. Once Amadou is free to play in defensive midfield and Trybull is fit the club may decide they need his spot in the 25 to do some business, especially as Louis Thompson could come back and take one of the remaining spots in the 25 as a homegrown player?

I can see us buying a selection of attacking midfielders for the u23 and u18 squad.
