Webber said some time ago that if anyone was interested in talking about our young stars, the conversation started at 20 million. We'll see if he meant it. Mind you, this is the man that got us 3 million for Marley Watkins, so he could probably sell sand to the Arabs!

I’d probably take £15m plus some healthy add-on/sell-on clauses. We have McCallum waiting in the wings, and it’s been rumoured that we want Larouchi as part of the deal, so £15m plus some clauses for someone who we can undoubtedly replace or even upgrade, is a good deal. Particularly as I would say Jamal isn’t on the same level as the likes of Aarons or Godfrey.

That all said, I’d be happy to see Jamal stay. He’ll be the best left back in the Championship next season, so it won’t be the end of the world for me if Liverpool don’t up their current offer.

Problem at this stage is Liverpool know Lewis want to join them which means he could try and force things. Difficult but we’re going to have to get used to it. Is it a coincidence that Lewis is with the same agent as Alexander Arnold and a couple of other Liverpool players?

My lad was telling me that he almost joined Leeds before he joined us? As apparently Leeds have some kind of link to Getafe.

But yeah, anywhere but there.

Yeah Leeds had first dibs on him before we signed him, but turned him down for some reason. I don’t know the details obviously but I think Leeds and Getafe basically have a similar sort of thing to what Udinese and Watford have, but on a smaller scale.

Mad that they’re now probably gonna have to pay around £30m for a player they could’ve signed for next to nothing 2 years ago!

Hmmmm. Is Godfrey a better centreback than Lewis is a left back?

I think Lewis has quite a bit of potential and is perhaps a bit underrated compared to Aarons and Godfrey. He's got very quick feet, great athleticism and he keeps the ball.

I would say he needs to improve defensively but the same goes of Alexander-Arnold, so clearly Klopp can live with that.

I think if Lewis ups his aggression in the final third then you've probably got a pretty good player on your hands. At the moment he often lets opposing defenders off the hook but if you can get him driving at defenders time after time he's got the potential to be a threat.

I tend to agree, Lewis probably isn’t any worse a left back than Godfrey is a centre back, but Godfrey is always going to be the more marketable one. Captain of the England under 21s, very comfortable on the ball, mobile, quick. Plus prices for centre backs have gone through the roof in the last couple of years, since Van Dijk and Maguire went for stupid money. A player with Godfrey’s attributes has got to be one of the most sought-after types of player in football right now.

Whereas I would say in contrast, young, talented full-backs are something that nearly every club seems to be producing at the moment. You only have to look and see that Max Aarons, a superb right back who will almost certainly move to a top side this summer for something like £25m, is probably England’s 5th or 6th choice right back at the moment. They’re still incredibly in-demand obviously, hence why we’ll command a big fee for Max, but with Lewis, for me, not being close to as near the finished article as Aarons is, and actually representing Northern Ireland internationally rather than England (stupid that it detracts from his value really seeing as he was born and raised here, but I think it undoubtedly does),I think that’s why we’ll get a fair bit less for him.

I agree though, realistically there’s no reason why he can’t go on to be as good as the other two. As brilliant as it would be to see him go to probably the best team in the world right now, I am skeptical as to whether it’ll be the best thing for him. No doubt Klopp will make him better but barring a major injury to Robertson it’s hard to see him ever getting another game-time there to properly develop and iron out some of the flaws that you mention.
