The worst thing about the Football League Show is the attempt to get meaningful punditry into twenty seconds of summary.  Last night was something like:

"So Steve, what did you make of Brentford?"

"Brentford, yeah.  Started well, look good, I think they'll do alright."

"But Brighton will be disappointed?"

"Brighton, yeah.  Disappointing to lose, but it's early days, I think they'll do alright."

Can see all the goals on the official YouTube, but only place I know where 'extended highlights' can be seen is Canaries Player, which isn't worth £4 a month. 

Brings it all back to a previous topic on this forum, about the full match replays that Fulham get because they aren't tied to an iFL contract. Although can't imagine many Fulham fans are putting themselves through those at the minute :lol:

Is it worth £4 a month? 

Almost all of the videos and other content are available for free elsewhere online. In fact, pretty much identical to the content that I could get for a £0.69 one off payment for the iPhone / iPad app. 

The only use that it has is that it allows me to listen to BBC Radio Norfolk commentary in Yorkshire when I cannot otherwise find a stream. It hasn't escaped me that I am paying money to listen to something that I already pay for to produce. BBC Radio stations are funded by the license fee. 

As already discussed on this forum, there are some teams who are able to provide full match replays online because they are not tied to an iFL contract. Some of them even provide full match replays free of charge, although I'd be more than willing to pay for those (more than £4 whilst in this league with streams often difficult to come by). 

Perhaps you find it more useful than I do, but what exactly do you find valuable on the service? I doubt many Norfolk based fans would opt to subscribe to it, what with them being able to get BBC Radio Norfolk?

Before FLS, there was an even worse 'summary' of the leagues on ITV, so not sure what people are moaning about. There simply isn't the interest and money in the championship for the BBC or any network to invest any more time in it (otherwise sky would have done so).

Personally think the FLS does the best job possible in rounding up 3 leagues. Has to pick a few extended games before the weekend as the rest of the games will have limited cameras (so people moaning we should've had extended highlights need to remember what league we're in).

Also think Claridge is a decent pundit. Has the passion for what must be a huge job researching and keeping tabs on 3 leagues each sat and talks sense most of the time.

The Championship is said to be the 4th most watched league in Europe (by attendances). Only the Premier League, La Liga, and Bundesliga have bigger attendances.

I could well be wrong on this but I think I read somewhere that we aren't renewing the contract with the company that run CanariesPlayer, so there's the possibility of not having to put up with it much longer.

Whilst that is true (the numbers are also skewed a little by the fact there are more games in the Championship), highlights shows have never attracted decent viewers.

The BBC tried showing live Championship games a couple of seasons ago, and they picked up very few viewers.

The Championship does well for fans going to games, but neutrals have very little interest in it and certain the really lucrative overseas markets have no interest. Every Premier League game wouldn't be available on a stream if it wasn't for the huge TV deals in places such as the US and Asia.

The Premier League makes more money selling its TV rights to Singapore alone, than Italian football does for its entire overseas rights package.

In this day and age of internet highlights being so readily available there is no return to be made in a televised highlights show - which is why ITV have made no attempt to gain the highlights back from the BBC.

I think any hope of a really high-quality show like MOTD for the Football League is impossible.

This is purely because of Goals Express on Sky Sports News.  Why stay up until 11:30 for a 30 second highlights of the game, when you can watch all the goals + manager interviews at 6pm on Sky.
