32 man senior squad!

I didn't realise how inflated our squad had become. Wikipedia has removed players that have been told they are being released (e.g. Hoolahan) and loan players have been removed, and players out on loan have been readded to the squad.

So we could name two entire matchday squads right now, if everybody was fit.

Looks like we've got quite a bit of fat to trim? So who is 'for sale'? Obvious answer would be anybody at the right price, but who we do we think is surplus to requirements?

Have to assume that we'll be listening to any offers for Timm Klose and Ivo Pinto this summer unless they accept Tettey style pay cuts, when Webber tried to play down expectations of early transfers he may have been doing so because he's keen to shift a few first?

Are we accruing deadwood at an alarming rate, or is there a way back in for a few of them? Jarvis, Naismith, Martin, McGovern the obvious deadwood that we are stuck with for another year. But can any of us see Franke, Stieparmann, Wildschut and Watkins playing a part going forward?

Feels like this summer is going to need to be just as busy as last summer, trying to shift people to make room for others whilst balancing the books and trying to improve us on the pitch at the same time.

Neil Adams going to be a very busy man 'managing loans', mostly loans out to Scotland and Germany?

For me, realistically, I think we are stuck with Martin. Naismith apparently in negotiations to terminate his contract. I'm not sure Jarvis will ever be fit again. We may struggle to offload Wildschut, weren't we trying to punt Marley Watkins on? I think re Klose and Pinto, it very much depends on just how much their wages are, we could probably cover Klose leaving (Raggett?) but we are a bit thin at right back.

We apparently rejected a £1m offer for Watkins, but I think it was because we were struggling to name 8 homegrown players in a squad at the time (which is why Hoolahan dissapeared for a bit too).

Hopefully Bristol City will be back in for him?

Would be nice if Pinto loves it enough here to take a bit of a pay cut for a 3 year deal or something, but I should imagine Klose is on serious money. Complete guess of course but he was a big name player when we signed him in the Premier League.

Paul Jones is on the the list who is presumably going to be released.

How many is it we need to get it down to? 25?

Of those on that list to be fair I expect Martin, Naismith, Oliveira, Watkins, Jones, Jarvis, Wildschut and McGovern to be stuck on the transfer list, potentially Franke, Husband and Klose as well. Some of those we will need to replaced but by no means all of them, and obviously just transfer listing them anyway doesn't necessarily mean they'll go anyway, I can't imagine anyone wanting to sign Jarvis, but at the very least we don't have to name them in our 25 man squad if that is the limit. Phillips I imagine will go out on loan or back to the development squad, Morris has a long-term injury so another one we don't have to name. Cantwell, Lewis, Buendia, Godfrey are all of an age where they don't have to be included. So don't think we'll have any problems hitting the 25 man limit.

But yeah, I know that wasn't your original point. But to be fair in most areas of the pitch we will be signing replacements for players that have left rather than brand new ones if you know what I mean. A new striker is pretty much the only position we need to actively be pursuing regardless of whether someone leaves, and maybe back-up for Pinto (unless we're happy with Godfrey having that role, like Stiepermann has on the other side). A new goalkeeper replacing the outgoing Jones, a new centre back will replace Klose/Franke, CAM to replace Maddison, and a 2nd striker to replace Oliveira. So essentially its about replacing those who leave with someone better/who fits our system better.

For me I'd be happy with:

Sell: Naismith, Watkins, Husband, Martin, Oliveira, Wildschut. Can't see Jarvis and McGovern having any suitors. Can add Franke to that list as well if its clear he's not good enough. Release Jones, loan out a few young players.

Bring in: 2 strikers, a goalkeeper, a Maddison replacement (preferably Leitner),a back-up right back.

Wouldn't mind us selling Klose really and bring in a centre back replacment (Leistner who we were after last summer is now available on a free),or Josh for a decent fee and then replacing him. Would rather we kept hold of Pinto.

There is no upper limit in the Championship Din, that's a Premier League rule (no squad registration in the Championship)..... just saying that its a huge squad.

Far too many players to work with considering you can only name 18 in a matchday squad.

Should imagine there will be a lot of outgoings, considering we are presumably hoping to bring a few more in.

To be fair in centre midfield alone we have Trybull, Tettey, Vrancic, Godfrey, Stiepermann and Thompson all competing for 2 spots. Plus McLean and potentially Leitner who can play there as well.

But yeah expecting (and hoping for) a lot of outgoings this summer.
