I put this on the other Lambert thread on Other Football before I read your article. I didn't have the time or energy to flesh it out as you've done but our views are aligned.

I am in the slightly bitter camp, I'm afraid.
Yes, he gave us three amazing years, but it is symbiotic, we also furthered his reputation, it wasn't all one sided.
Its not about loyalty, we have no reason to expect that from anyone, but its almost like anywhere other than Norwich would do, which hurts. Norwich fans worshipped him, and he knew it.
How he left stinks too. Word is he visited his friend, Petrov, in hospital, did he pop into Villa while he was there? He appeared on SSN just days before he left, extolling the fine virtues of Norwich City, and professing how happy he was. Then he had the temerity to sue us for constructive dismissal.
So I'm quite happy he failed, him and Villa deserved each other.
I am in the slightly bitter camp, I'm afraid.

I was going to respond to Morty's post when I readLambert's statement on the other thread and posted this which is what I was going to say here:

If Lambert had issued a similar statement when he left us and thanked City for what we had done for him whilst explaining that he needed to challenge himself further and develop as a manager then, he would have gone with the blessing and thanks of many City fans.
That there was and remains so much bitterness about Lambert's departure really speaks to the ungracious and inept way he handled it. Perhaps he didn't feel that he owed us a farewell. Whatever, the nature of his departure diminished him far more than the fact of it.
The sad thing is that it was all entirely avoidable with a little thought and ten minutes with Goreham or Lakey.

Whatever gripe he had with the board, the fans did nothing but support him.

I don't quite understand the hype about Lambert. But I also don't understand the bad feelings toward him.
Although I don't think he was the best manager we have had, his reign at NCFC was the most spectacular and exciting reign of any manager we have had. He was like a rocket on bonfire night. Big spectacular show and then gone before you know it.
Why nobody can accept that he moved on is beyond me. That is what happens. It's why Fer and Snodgrass moved on. And rather than criticise or even crucify him, just fondly remember the great times we had while he was with us.
But his tenure with us was his only real success as a manager. And I'm positive that the big clubs that some think he ought to have gone to, had looked at him but had decided he didn't have the real chutzpah to handle what is becoming a more competitive and fierce profession.
He did OK at Wycombe but I think they are a bit of a yo-yo club anyway but their feats in reaching a semi final spot was tremendous and the play offs weren't rewarding.
It is easy to blame the owners at Villa for their downturn as many of us will remember them as a top six team. And to say he didn't have money to spend is not perfectly true. Benteke, N'Zogbia, Sanchez, Gil, Kozak all came to Villa for decent fees and only one can be deemed anywhere near a success. And a lot of his signings for us were not successes. Certainly McNamee, Johnson, Whitbread, Wilbraham, Ward, Barnett, .Ayala, De Laet and Vaughan certainly counteracted the successes of Fox, Jackson, R Martin, Crofts, Ruddy, Johnson, Howson. And I think the jury may be out on many others.
I will forever remember some great awaydays during his reign and a restoration of pride in the club when travelling to other clubs. And we were entertained along with it and had some new heroes to talk about.
Footballers and managers are commodities in today's game. I have no sympathy with them as that is the nature of the game and I'm sure Lambert would jump into the QPR job in the unlikely event it was offered.

Really didn't and still don't know what the allure of Villa was....Watching their away fans singing about Lambert, I thought .No way will he go there..Was it already a done deal? nudge, nudge,wink, wink. Quite a few of their fans were saying that was so..He must have known the future situation, but it seems to me as though it was Anywhere but Norwich. as some of our players have don in the past, maybe some now..Sympathy for Lambert? He came here, achieved, got paid and buggered off to other pastures, wher he got paid, but didn't achieve...For his NCFC stay, I will always be greatful, but since then,,? Who cares, sure his gravy will taste good

No problem with him moving on....but my comments mirror Morty's and I am also in the slightly bitter camp......and you know what really jarred me off?......that pathetic fist pumping when he returned to Carrow Road.........
